Sarcy comment on the desire for some ex-pats in ME who "are there to only evade tax" to not visit the Embassy or be evacuated, because "they went to cheat on their taxes so they deserve to live in a war zone".

Not sure where you are atm, just being a dick to others who think we as a nation should abandon people in the UAE et al

There are no comparisons with Iraq at all, even before sadam was over thrown, they were a very fractured country religiously, Iran's population is largely as one, the factions here are the ruling "elite" v the rest, and until now "the rest" had no real hope. As a country it has huge potential, and it's very sad how it's been oppressed by these nutters, but there's the rub, sadam was one dictator, and once removed the factions went in very different directions (not helped by the west it has to be said).

These nutters in Iran are not one man, they're a cult of nutters, getting rid of them will take a lot of resolve from the population, but I think they will largely be united against the nutters, they also have a lot of support outside the country from ex-pats that love their country, but not it's political situation.
 
Keir Starmer is an absolute ****.

He is the biggest flip flopper going. We should not be getting involved in this war, has absolutely nothing to do with us.

We went to Iraq and Afghanistan with America and low and behold never found the weapons of mass destruction.

Now apparently Iran have nuclear weapons according to Trump and Netanyahu, can bet your bottom dollar it is a load of bollocks as well.

Netanyahu is on a mission to wipe out the middle east and he has Trump and America by the balls. Classic blackmail and Bribery tactics.

We need the next prime minister in charge that will not take bribes from Israel. Most of our cabinet have taken £££ from them to basically do as they're told and make sure they do what Israel want to do.

Netanyahu and the IDF are the root cause of a lot of evil in this world. Its time for us to wake up.

We will, but there's 0% chance of troops on the ground from US or Israel imho.

Any significant change will have to come from within, I'm sure there will be elements of their military/security who would have been horrified by what they were forced to do a few weeks ago, and might be discussing what to do next in quieter spaces.

If you look at the actual data, Starmer is a very competent PM in terms of the wishes of the nation. Nobody looks at the data though. All about social media messaging now full of lies and lack of context and impotent rage.

(I don't like Starmer but I like data and longitudinal studies)

I don’t actually mind Starmer. He’s got no personality and is awful at the comms side of of being a politician but I don’t think he’s fundamentally a bad person, unlike some of his predecessors. He hasn’t got the media backing to help him out at all either.

On the announcement tonight, it was the right thing for him to do. Real life means the British pm can’t be like Hugh Grant in Love Actually…

My parents, before they had kids, travelled the whole country and then lived in Bahrain for a year, they absolutely loved it and still talk so warmly of both the people and what they saw. I look at their pictures and it’s unbelievable that it’s the same country.

They can never achieve this. Israel exists, the American client states exist. And without going all history nerd on everyone, Iran in its current borders isn't a real country historically. Sasanians were, the Rashiduns were, the Timiuruds were, but this ideal of a 3000 year old country is nonsense. They are the Germany of Persia. An ad hoc nation united through recent political means.

This isn't to say they are illegitimate, just that the their history (like the US) is founded in mythology

Thing is, Iran was far from perfect in 1979, but where was? Or is?

It’s hard to imagine it being worse off if the revolution had failed to get off the ground.
