I live in a village outside Lancaster and often walk my whippet around the lanes nearby. Last summer as I was walking her a car comes screaming up behind me and brakes alongside. A man and woman got out and started yelling at me accusing me of hare coursing - their logic was because I had a whippet and was wearing camo shorts then what else could I be doing? It got really nasty with the guy getting in my face and the woman was now filming it all. No matter how much I protested my innocence they were having none of it. In the end I had to ring the police and give the car registration - turns out it was stolen!
Ironically my dog is an RSPCA rescue; her and her sister were being kept in absolute squalid conditions in a garage in Ormskirk and the guy had been prosecuted a few times in the past for coursing and banned from keeping animals but he just carried on as before. (Has since been arrested and charged yet again!)
When I was younger I worked in an animal refuge in Carlisle and we were forever getting whippets, greyhounds and lurchers tied up and dumped at the gates. As soon as they were too slow for racing, lamping or whatever then they were classed as useless. Some were covered in cigarette burns and had their teeth filed to points. Since then I’ve always had sighthounds especially rescue ones - they’re absolutely brilliant dogs.
The people who treat them that way and allow them to rip other animals apart are utter cunts.
