A thread to discuss past players and coaches of City women team

I think it is about time to have this thread.

I will start with Samantha Mewis. She played for City only one season, 20-21, and unfortunately was under Gareth Taylor. Despite that, she scored 7 goals in 17 games. I think Sam would have flourished with our current players (Hasegawa and Sam in midfield, wow) and our new coach. She is 33, and retired in 2023. Now she is the editor-in-chief and podcast host of The Women’s Game from Men in Blazers.

Great podcast

Love Esme but she made the right decision for her career to move on. As things stand with our current squad she would still only be a backup to Jade Rose.

Was definitely the right time for her to move on as she wasnt getting a chance under the previous manager but id love her back. We need two top players for each postion given how common injuries are and we'll be playing UWCL next year. Cant see it happening any time soon but i can seeher coming back one day.

Rose or Knaak get injured and we're a bit screwed. Knaak has been out for a bit, Greenwood is just coming back.

Agree though, Rose has been quality this season. A real bonus!

Talking of past players, it looks like Georgia Stanway is looking to return to England.

Her game has expended now to 6, 8 & 10 positions.

The question is...

Would you have her back taking into account her garnered experience...?
Er, yes is the answer. Her beef was with Taylor playing her out of position (i.e. right back!).

We're okay squad size this season*, but we'll need 2-3 extra bodies projecting ahead to the CL next season.

(I have a suspicion she may be a statement signing for LCL.)

(*Though Yui is likely to miss 3/4 games when the Asia Cup is on - though I'd expect that's why Aemu was only loaned out for half a season.)

Haven't seen anyting of her in Germany only in her England games and hasn't impressed me that much since her injury layoff. Would rather give Yui, LBB, Syd & Grace the game time.

Just looked and very surprised that she's still only 27. Thought she was around the 30 mark tbh.

Thankfully the Asian cup only runs for 20 days from 1st-21st March meaning Yui and our other Japanese players should only miss two games.

15th March - Aston Villa (A)
22nd March - Spurs (H)

Not to mention should Japan not make it to the final, they may well be back for the game on the 22nd.

Yes, I forgot the Leicester game is before the 10-day call-up window.
Villa may get postponed if we make the League Cup final.
Ragettes A may be a bit iffy as it's the week after the final.

I'm sure she would be devastated by your jibe. She makes over £1 million a year, probably more now. She playes a game for a living and does it better than 99% of the women in England.

I understand some people can't let it go and she lives rent free in their heads but it is silly after a while. But do carry on.

Why do you defend Chloe Kelly so much? People are allowed their opinions. Genuine question, are you related to her?

If Kelly wouldn't be bothered about it then why are you? It was a throwaway quip that seemingly gave some people a chuckle. God knows there ain't enough of those around at the moment in this messed up world.
