Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Watched PSG v Chelsea in the second half. Both PSG and Chelsea attacking at will, pace, slick passing, using the wings, etc. Only Chelsea’s collapse at the end saw them get beat 5-2. If Enrique becomes available next season or the season after, City should sign him as our next Manager.
Not sure he would come tbh. Who follows Pep whenever it happens?

It's amazing how many only post when we lose..
Why don't they post when we have a good result..
Yeah everyone is pissed off when we lose but slagging off the manager and players doesn't change anything.. Result is still the same.
If we can get an early goal next week then it will give us some hope..
As for the game last night.. I think NOR should have been in midfield and not full back.
I understand why he played Khus to combat the pace of Madrid but Nunes should have played in my opinion as he's no slouch either and has, been playing very well.
Big Erl needs to start working harder as he's adding nothing to the team at the moment.. Not sure if he's fully fit as he looks well off the pace.
Erl and Sem don't seem to gel so it has, to be one or the other.
Let's hope we beat Wet So amazing on Saturday and things will look brighter then.
Because they're fucking angry at last nights debacle which was totally avoidable. An abomination of a team selection and tactical set up. Saturday was an excellent performance with pace and intensity and was rightly praised just as last night's shit show needs to be called out. When we play well and win posters are happy and don't feel the need to vent ,it's called emotion. Whatever happens next week and if we play well and go down swinging I'll be as delighted as the next man but it will do nothing to apease the annoyance at last nights horror. Maybe if the players were as annoyed as the fans we might produce a night to remember.

Not feeling too optimistic but with the right team selection, could still go through next week. If only that NOR effort went in.

Very tired of our TNT's treatment of City; Laura Woods smiling and laughing last night at full time was a full mask off moment. Something needs to change.

We used to pass teams to death until they were exhausted running after the ball, and then we would exploit those tired players and the gaps they were leaving, and score at will.

Now teams don't chase the ball. They drop back across the 18 yard line and pack the penalty area, whilst we pass the ball sideways and backwards aimlessly whilst hoping for the odd gap to open and to exploit.
To me that's why Cherki should be starting these big games, only one who can thread balls through very limited space.

Plenty of the posters slagging us off never post when we win mate..
When people post on whether we win or not that's good.. But posting only when we lose is odd behavior in my opinion

You can argue formations and tactics till the cows come home. What I saw last night was Real Madrid players that were a level above their opposition. O'Reilly and Guehi were like children learning how to swim, in shark infested waters. Khusanov versus Vinicius jr was a laughable mis-match. Listen, when you buy players from Palace, Wolves, Bournemouth and Usbekistan. Don't expect them to rock up to the Bernabeu and play like prime Barcelona. Pep's a good manager, but he's not THAT good.

I'm not sure what has happened with the transfer policy, because it looks like a stockpile of players that like to finish and stick the ball in the back of the net, but not much good at all the other stuff, like tackling, tracking back, creating chances for teammates. Getting involved in the general play, making a few short passes, playing 1-2's, running into space or playing as a team. It's me me me football.

I remember the successful Liverpool team of the eighties in Europe always made sure that they kept it tight in any away leg.
For some reason last night Pep decided to release his inner ‘Ange’ and did anything but keep it tight hence leading to the result we ended up with.

He clearly wanted to keep it tight hence why he played Khusanov and we had no attacking FBs.

Very good assessment of the match and the squad.

For me, Pep’s main mistake was playing Semenyo/Savinho over Cherki. We'd have created more chances with Cherki from the start. It's not like Cherki isn't productive.

Tbf, we had several good attacks when it was still 0:0. Had we scored 1st and Real opened up trying to equalise, then having Semenyo/Savinho on the counter could have been great.

Football is mostly non-linear: small things can have huge effects.

Imo, the right thing would have been to play the team that won at Anfield with Doku for Marmoush and maybe Cherki for Semenyo.

Admirable attitude, but - and I'm not being sarcastic here - realistically, how many goals do you think that we would need to score?
Sounds a bit deluded right now but I feel we could keep a clean sheet on the day. We have completely dominated Real Madrid multiple times on the ball, could happen next week. They'll most likely try and set up to nick goals on the counter, right team selection could nulify that. 3 goals is possible?

Desperately trying to cling to something for next week...
