Real Madrid (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

To be fair, Nunes finds Haaland a lot with crosses - maybe more assists for him than anybody else but could be wrong there? - and RAN is a freak of dribbling nature.

I agree with RAN’s final pass, though, but think that was come with time.

It doesn’t help that Haaland’s movement in the box recently is - let’s say - stagnant at best. RAN is one for the low-driven cross and Haaland doesn’t attack the front post or middle of the area to make use of that type of delivery.

This is the biggest issue we have with the setup at the moment. We used to have midfielders underlapping the wingers to create those passing triangles and when the ball came into the box we'd have more than one option to get on the end of it. That's been the theme throughout Pep's time with us. How many times was Sterling at the back post to tap one in if Aguero didn't get there? Sterling's cross against Villa - Gundo at the back post. De Bruyne ball across goal - Gundo at the back post. Then we had the season Foden won player of the year by getting into the box consistently to be on the end of things.

It can't just be Haaland to aim at. What was refreshing last night, compared to the game in Madrid and at West Ham was the number of runners beyond the ball and people not being afraid to take a shot on if there was no simple pass.

The downside is we are so vulnerable when we lose the ball in those situations and Pep's really struggling to stop that from being the case. It's from our sloppiness with the ball that teams are creating all of their chances. He's tried to make it safer in possession but we're then toothless in attack.

Damage was obviously done in the 1st leg. Last night was about saving a bit of face with the tiny chance of a miracle. Other than the year we won it we struggle to get to grips with this competition at times. 2 cups and a small chance of the PL left now, but some of these underwhelming performances we've seen need to cease.

I appreciate it was in the heat of the match but why if Bernardo had enough time to see the ball coming at him and stick his left arm out, why did he not instead just step to his left and let the ball hit his chest?
He actually put his arm behind his back and so it hit his upper arm - whether it was below the sleeve line is difficult to tell because the picture wasn't clear enough.

Of course it was enough for VAR and the biased ref, who looked at the screen for about 5 seconds and couldn't wait to give the pen and a red.

I'll accept it was the correct decision if somebody can show me a picture of it hitting Bernardo's arm below his sleeve. I think it hit him on the upper arm/shoulder.

And who would those be? We're not moving on Semenyo. I would agree that Savinho should be moved on but - we just gave him a new contract. We missed our chance on that one. I'm assuming Trafford is probably going to be looking for the door after getting shafted. If you're talking about ruthless, tell me who you're talking about.
Savinho, Nunes, Marmoush, maybeTJ, plus the crocks

James Trafford could end up a double cup winner, don't think he'll be in a rush to leave.

it was handball mate, hit his elbow, was pretty clear in real time

Disappointed with the result but not the performance.
We were at it from the start and had it not been for some poor finishing and goofy having another blinder in goal for them we could have well scored a couple before Bernardo got sent off.
Despite being down to 10 we showed real fight and could/should have scored more.
Cherki and Kushanov were outstanding as was Doku. Theses are still v young players and they will shape our future.
Roll on Sunday.

Valverde scores that chance he had in the first couple of minutes 99 times out of a 100, and everything else would have been irrelevant.

We huffed and puffed a bit, but we don’t look like a well drilled team, either going forward or at the back.

No complaints about the red card - it was a lazy handball. The only major positive was Khusanov; he was absolutely outstanding and should have played far more regularly than he has this season.

Ultimately, it was a very similar outcome to when we played them last season and I don’t see any material improvement over the period.

The selection, tactics and cohesion of the team are all still up in the air, and we look like a side in need of change and reinvention.

Why did the semi automated var not flag it right away. And if its not clear and obvious the linesman decision should have stood.

Yeah when this Auto offsides first come in the flag went up within a second or 3 now they play on to the play is ended! Or is it Because from the photo they produced about 30 mins later was that close they let the play develop?

I am literally the biggest fan (I think) but thats another story...

Anyway, back to the point

You had a pop "at least we tried"

We dominated Madrid with 10 men and created enough chances to win

So yeah have a fucking day off.

As for school, some need to have some sort of education, just parroting bollocks over and over.

I was well proud of the effort and performace last night, long may that last.
Proud of the performance was exactly how I felt. Every single player can hold their head up high after last night

If we perform like that for the rest of the season, we could still end up with 2 pots & finish 2nd, which would be a brilliant season :)

No lines were drawn on my stream, which is normal in 2026. Even after 5-10 minutes when they were showing the replay they didn't draw lines. They then realised he was offside and just focused on replaying the "handball" over and over. It was ridiculous

Some fella around me thought it was a penalty for us they were checking from a corner.

Screen just said penalty check eventually (not who for) not very helpful when its that confusing.

Only 3 minutes added on too, and that took an age.

Also Pep has,

In the last 3 years (since March 2023) He ha won the treble, The Super Cup, The World Club Cup, and then become the only Manager to to win 4 leagues in a row in England mate!

Stop being silly mate!
I'm talking about three seasons since the treble of which this is one in which he has been embarrassing in the champions league and lost three times to a bang average Madrid !

Don’t try and argue with Sutty.

He obviously had a row with Sweep.
Yeah. I should just ignore these posters but sometimes I feel very defensive re the players :-) :-)
