Seeing so many threads now discussing transport & travel (and politics…) and its overriding a lot of the discussion which is directly relevant to the actual thread subjects.

Thought it would be good to have a place where all that can be discussed within one thread.

Honestly think the tram thread is fine on its own tbh.

I think the point is more about is there any point in having a separate tram thread if there’s a thread covering all other transport? It’s easy for if is everything is in one place.

And this general thread was absolutely needed since several threads were being clogged up with travel discussion and political links to any transport problems.

Ok, fair enough, just prefer a standalone Metrolink thread personally.

Likewise, standalone metro thread works for me.
As does Matchday Bus where we have excellent help from the rep.

Both work well on, er, matchday :)
Agree, the Metrolink thread is an outlet for us all to highlight the absolutely useless and not fit for purpose “service” they provide to the Etihad campus, including Coop Live and soon ABBA thingy. The matchday bus thread is a very useful conduit for us to communicate to @matchdaybus about an excellent initiative which is a godsend to many blues. Don’t merge them

I've just driven from Burnage and parked up near Ashbury Train Station. It's taken me 45 minutes. Every **** was cutting in and jumping the queues at the junctions and at traffic lights. It's total gridlock driving to the Etihad. Traffic is either crawling or is stationary. No wonder people don't bother with midweek games. It's only going to get worse next season with the capacity increase.

Are there decent cycle paths and routes in and around Manchester, that serve the Etihad? Old canals or what have you? I was struck at how easy it was getting around some european cities on a bike this summer, and thought wet old manchester would really benefit. Probably never see my bike again though.

Are you aware of Citylink? It is the yellow line on the map below.

It's no use to me as my entrance is on the South side of the ground but it looks like it would suit people in the North or West stands.

For the Ehihad Campus to continue to grow, they need a mass transit system

Common Examples of Mass Transit
  • Bus Systems: Conventional city buses, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) with dedicated lanes, and trolleybuses.
  • Subways and Metros: Underground or elevated rapid transit rail systems (e.g., London Underground, NYC Subway).
  • Commuter/Regional Rail: Trains connecting suburban areas to city centers, often sharing tracks with freight or intercity services.
  • Trams and Light Rail: Rail vehicles running on tracks in urban streets, providing faster service than buses.

It’s a very flamboyant description of a footpath that’s always been there and they put a few fancy lights on it and called it a transport strategy. 25mins is a bit optimistic too. We use it sometimes if weather fine but for eg the Fulham game we got absolutely piss wet through. It’s really no different than walking back along the roads (which it joins half way back)

A major gear change in bus services in every part of Greater Manchester has been announced by transport bosses. A total of 36 separate Bee Network service changes revealed today are expected to come into effect later this year - with 24-hour night buses introduced throughout Greater Manchester.

Thank you. At some point a new open-air swimming pool is coming to this route. It is called a LIDO.

It will be on Cyrus Street. More here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c75z3q57rk9o

I can walk to Picc. station in 25 mins. if I have a train to catch but that is pushing it. I walk through a field beyond Holt Town tram line but it gets muddy if wet and is then to be avoided. I wonder why MCC do not pedestrianise it because it is the most direct route back but perhaps it's designated for homes. There are supposed to be 4,500 new homes coming to this general area. And they are going to plant a lot of trees as per pic. above. When I don't know.

Please do not get rid of the Metrolink thread as I am one of its biggest contributors with very good reasons.
