Real Madrid (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

deliberate handball stopping a shot on goal is a red, always has been. There is no requirement to forensically determine whether it would have gone in or not
A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off: denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by committing a deliberate handball offence (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area)

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct - The FA

6 players ball watching after that shot hit the post, left Vinicius in acres of space. Some good attacking play from us though in the second leg, shit happens and there's always next year.
Because of an earlier conversation, I watched the goal and timed this: Ait-Nouri went 9 seconds without looking behind him, which at today's pace is a lifetime.Screenshot_20260318-135002.png
That image shows where he is when he looks behind him. The next time is not until after the ball has hit the post and Vinicius - who has travelled probably 50/60 yards unseen by Ait-Nouri - is about to take his shot.

He's been doing this all season.

There must be League 2 defenders wondering why they can't have a trial with City.

I expect that there will be other posters who are besotted by his impressive 5-a-side skills, but they'll have a hard job convincing me that this is acceptable 'defending', at any level.

You seem certain, so I’ll bow to your knowledge :)

Fucking stupid law if it’s going wide tho eh?

UEFA giving Vini MOTM proves that the people watching the game really don't know what they're watching and that G/A rules all.

His finishing was absolutely abysmal.
I appreciate I might be the only one here but he looked dangerous every time he got the ball and scored both goals in the second leg to kill the game off. He could've had another couple as well. I guess there's the counter argument he could've got more, which is true, but on the whole he played well I thought and frequently found himself in space where our 2 central defenders couldn't see him.

He's not a likeable player but I do think Ancelotti had a point when he said something like he is the most decisive player in the world. I'm sick of him to be honest as he always seems to score against us.

Unfortunately players are marked on performance rather than cuntability
If you wanted to write a letter to vini jr
All you need to write for the address is
**** earth with maybe a re-direct from Rudiger.

Still think the German Rags or PSG do this lot in the CL

I think this sentence shows how far off the top of the pile we have fallen and how far we have to go to get back up there into contention. We were comfortably the best team in Europe just 3 years ago.

Madrid pretty much battered us but I expect them to get mullered by any of the two mentioned, Arsenal, Barca, possibly Athletico, maybe even Gala or the scousers ffs.

Just shows how key the right recruitment at the right time is in this business.

Here’s a depressing outline of how bad the recruitment has been. Walker, Laporte, Foden, Mahrez, Alverez and Palmer were all on the bench in the champions league final.

Last nights game reminded me of the FA Cup 3rd round game in 2012 against the rags, when Rooney got Kompany sent off and they raced into a 3-0 lead, only for City to come back in the 2nd half with 2 goals and nearly snatched a draw with a late free-kick from Kolarov. City played off their heads that day and ended up going on to win the league.
Lets hope history repeats itself from here on in.
Vividly remember that. Almost felt like a victory, was just after the sick swan, and was very worried at half time they'd surpass that!

this whole incident was really odd, because it contrasted so much to the high tempo start we'd had.

When the ball hit Donna after it hit the post, 4 or 5 players were still standing on their heels just looking at it. Credit to Dias as the only player who reacted and stopped a certain goal. When the Madrid player got to it, everyone suddenly swarmed the ball and forgot the fact there were 3 unmarked Madrid players in the 18 yard box. 6 players + Donna within 4 yards, they had a free attempt.

This brain fart goes into a bit of a queue of mishaps this year. It's worth watching it back repeatedly, if folk can stomach it, it's a real mess.

Dias is wrong-sided (but still does well) but 5 players are still on their heels - why?!?!

Oh dear lads. Bernie does well to get over and make the save :D

Horrible personality but a ruthless and clinical striker. We needed that yesterday big time!

He could've done it with a head, chest, back or simply let it in. At least we wouldn't play with 10 men. Honestly, I'm not sure if it was even going in. Horrendous move.
So you’re saying that in the moment you would’t have put your elbow out. If you are, you’re in absolutely denial because it’s a natural reflex.

It’s like a teeny tots kickabout. They’re all running towards the ball. Fucking embarrassing at this level.

Tbh, you may as well treat the league phase as just one extended random draw - don't expect to be rewarded for finishing higher than another team, because there are too many variables.

It's a cup - you should be prepared to have to beat everybody.

PSG finished the league phase in 15th last season, in theory a soft draw for Liverpool, who topped the table.

And as for the conspiracy theorists out there - I haven't heard anybody mention Madrid's route to the final, should they make it?

This is why the lowest 8 clubs in the so called play off's gets the advantage or a double bite of the cherry.

Needs changing to the top 16 places straight into the knockouts and the top 8 get seeded and the other 8 go into the pot
