Pep to leave at the end of the season

Viana is going to want a yes man.

He isn't going to bring someone in with high authority that might threaten his job position with big demands.

It's why he won't appoint Kompany because no matter what Kompany does, even in failure, the fans will never blame him. The blame will go to someone like Viana.

This is the downside of the sporting director model. Makes the upper boardroom level too political.
i wouldn't call maresca a yes man, if he was he would still be at chelsea and not of kicked up the fuss he did

Guehi lol. It was all over X before he commited.
I’ve been back through his Tweets, when it was very early in the rumour mill, in January first week, he said City had a great chance of Guehi and it was the £10m signing on fee being included in his wages, spread out over longer term that could do it - which is exactly what happened. When others said why would he move now, Tolm said he wants to secure Palace a fee, which was later reported on by the media as a reason Guehi went ahead.

Another example, he said on 18th of December -“Semenyo looks on. Player has already given a preference to join City before Jan 10”. TNT Sports first broke it 31st December from what I can find, he was before the media generally.

He also said City have agreed a new Etihad deal “worth over £900m” in 2024. It wasn’t until September 2025 the 1 billion figure was thrown about following the APT settlement from what I can see.

maresca may not be the most inspiring appointment but we could do a lot worse tbh. in 18 months at chelsea he managed to win 2 trophies in a club that's looking like a total car crash. most city fans would love kompany but would city fans of been happy to take a punt on kompany after burnley.

Why would Vinny leave Bayern and Bavaria for City and M11 ?
Misplaced confidence?
He loves City and knows the club inside out. His missus loves city and is from Irlam. His kids were born in Manchester. He’d get paid more. He knows the owners and board would stand by him and not make any knee jerk decisions if he had a bad run. He’d have more money to spend. The PL is better than the Bundesliga

Apart from that I can’t think of anything else

Why do some of you think it’s going to be difficult to convince a good manager?

We’re probably the most attractive proposition for any manager. 10 years without being sacked Pep has had. The most supportive board, the best internal set up to achieve success.

We have some brilliant players, we’re 2nd in the league, even after a massive rebuild, in a final for the 2nd year in a row despite said rebuild.

Kompany with his ties to the club and marital ties to the city would die to come back here.
A very sensible post amongst a sea of shite.

There's basically zero examples in the modern game of a legendary manager leaving and then the next guy not instantly flopping and being sacked within 18 months
How many legendary managers have there been in the modern game?

Probably only Ferguson and Wenger

You must be his agent or just a fan boy trawling through his Tweets to try and make a point.

There was loads of chatter about Gheui and Semenyo prior to his Tweets.

Same as Tonali and Anderson who he is pushing at the moment.

Etihad deal rumours well before Sept-25

I think thats just an excuse tbh, with the players we have we should still be beating the likes of Forest, West Ham & Bodo. I would also say the transfers we have brought in have no relevance to Pep playing players in positions they shouldn't be playing nor do they have any relevance to Peps ridiculous choice of substitutions.
The issue (always has been) is Pep refusing to adapt when he doesn’t have the perfect players for “his” way of playing..

Drives me nuts and surely isn’t something that a genius would do

I’m a grown man with kids, I’m not some “fan boy” of anything other than Manchester City. I’ve just conversed with him online for a while, like the bloke from the little I know from that and believe he’s the best ITK we have. It makes no sense to try and drive away a genuine ITK.

I also have the view that we’re all blues here and unless someone starts talking crap about politics in this main forum specifically, then it’s best to leave it out separately to the relevant forums or challenge him on whatever he tweeted on that platform.

Anyway, I’ve said my piece now, to bring it back to topic, I personally think Kompany or Maresca are a huge gamble. Both relatively young managers, both have had mostly ups but a down in their career, albeit Kompany was trying to play his philosophy at fucking Burnley and Maresca’s down was at a basket case in Chelsea that nobody else can get a tune out of. He’s easily been their best manager since Conte (not having Tuchel as anything but fortunate).

Fair enough, he hit Twitter to monetise his "ITK" status and it clearly didn't work out.

Back on topic, Kompany or Alonso for me.
