I can’t understand why we aren’t putting Gonzalez and Rodri in the double pivot. You can then put 3 attacking midfielders in front of them/ one attacking mid and 2 wingers. Or 2 wingers, 2 strikers. Give us the stable base to work from.

Sounds worth a go at least.

I just wonder if that became Plan A then we'd need someone to cover for them when one or both was missing?

Think there's been games where Nico G is excellent, but also games where he doesn't quite seem to make his decisions quickly enough and gets caught in possession. Not sure if it's specific tactics he struggles against possibly.

Not really. Planning was good. We got in a very capable deputy for Rodri. Trouble is he’s not being used and Rodri is getting flogged again. Planning was good. Application is the problem.

Way better than Kalvin Phillips.

And to be honest we will always struggle with some positions.. like backup to Aguero and backup to KDB.

Similarly backup to Rodri and Haaland are very hard positions to fill since no one wants to be a backup forever. At most you get 2 years out of them.

I’d like to hang on to him one more season, if Rodri leaves when his contract is up another year with us could see him ready to step straight in.
