Having worked doing screening for the GB Olympics and Paralympics in 2012 (X-Ray scanner operator and lane supervisor) I know it isn't a job you can just walk into. You need good interpersonal skill and an ability to be able to communicate calmly and effectively to people who are not necessarily behaving rationally.

I've seen first hand how these ICE goons operate, and it's so far away from what I described above. This will be another ill thought out solution to a problem of their own making.
 
I’m bound to wonder how different he would be now if he hadn’t dodged the draft, and had served in Vietnam.

Certainly dodging the draft will have made him feel entitled and a sense that the accepted rules did not apply to him. Plus money being the solution to problems you encounter in life.

Must have been a huge fork in the road in his life.

I suspect it wasn’t a fork in the road as he would have felt all of the above way before daddy wrote the cheque .

I accept that, but dodging the draft will have reinforced those feelings at a crucial time, and serving in Vietnam would have exposed him to such a manifestly different set of experiences at that time, that’s it’s difficult to see how the two different paths represented anything other than a fork in the road.
