A fantastic performance from all the players, and a fantastic tactical performance from Pep. The way our front four blocked off the passing lanes for Kepa was a master stroke from the genius.
The whole team played well, from the triple save by James early on, to the way the back four limited cheating Arsenal's forwards' chances, to the way Dave and Bernie controlled the midfield, to the way our front four terrified their defence.
After the first 15 minutes, we controlled the whole pitch. And considering the players that weren’t available, it showed the strength of the squad. I’ve said it before; Abdu is going to be a beast for us for the next decade and more.
The goals were inevitable, given the pressure we were putting cheating Arsenal under and City supporter, Nico, took both of them brilliantly. Two great headers from a young man, who has that uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time. He too, has a great future ahead of him at Etihad.
The City support was great throughout and it was great to hear their brilliant backing all game.
Pep now has more League Cup victories to his name than any other manager, leaving the pisscan, PEG and the great Brian Clough behind.
I’ve just seen a picture of the four Academy lads, James, Nico, Phil and Rico together. How brilliant is that? Phil and Johnny! Johnny Stones both have five winner’s medals each. Fantastic!
Well done to all of them. Now, let’s chase cheating Arsenal down.
