10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

Firstly, I imagine Pep is as bothered as he was when he set up the goal with the rabona.

I think he believes it, that the best players in the world don’t do that, but I very much doubt it bothers him that much when it comes off.

He obviously has personality.

I’m a bit old fashioned didn’t mind him doing that, but not sure being on the phone whilst walking up to lift the trophy and parade was a great look.

But imagine whoever was on the other end it was important to him.

The way players behave on and off the field is something Pep is passionate about. Being respectful is a trait he builds his teams upon. Cherki was arguably disrespectful in what he did on and off the field. But I fucking loved it and he is simply that kind of player.

Hopefully they just move on without the need to talk about it further. He's a young lad, who lit up Wembley and was pivotal to us winning the game.

His role in the 424 is not too dissimilar to what KdB has done for us.

Even when we played 433 on paper, Pep often used KdB to join the striker in our press in a 442.

But KdB would often be the "free man" by frequently dropping into his most comfortable area the "right half space", he would drop so deep he would almost be a RB.

This worked well for us because Walker would also give KdB the space as Walker sat back (Like we saw Nunes do) while the RW stayed wide.

It was uncanny how near identical the set up, and how obvious in hindsight it is.

Let your most gifted creator be the 10 and press with the striker, but in possession let them drop super deep to evade markers and have freedom, Cherki like KdB, excels when allowed to do this.
