Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

He is literally the most “Pep player” on the planet atm.

The similarities in his style, movement, even how his body shapes/moves literally make him a Kev clone.

I’d be beyond surprised if we didn’t go bollocks deep for him.
KDB in his final season, when he was clearly past his best, scored 6 goals and made 8 assists. In 40 appearances.

Elliott Anderson has scored 2 goals and made 3 assists in 42 games. And he is 11 years younger than KDB. The level of hype for Anderson is not justified in my opinion. I'm hoping that someone at the club has more insight than forking out 100m for someone who looked okay against Spurs.

Could you direct me the fixtures where Forest faced a low block please mate?

Further, Bernardo only has 2 goals and 3 assists this season. Is he shit as well?
Correct - the thing is when you look at our squad as is, we need a player who has the engine and physical ability to stop counters and give the ball to the more creative players. It's all about having the right balance - we do not need another forward minded player we have those, what we need is a player that can win the ball and play the early pass to our forward minded players. We have lacked that only because Rodri had his ACL injury and the other midfield players are more suited to attacking which leaves us vulnerable to break aways.

Since our interest I have looked at Anderson closely and the one thing he has above Nico G and even Nico O is his ability to get back quickly and make a tackle. He also is good at cross field passes to break the lines. Yeah not a patch on prime Rodri but I believe he has the potential to hold our midfield together and at age 23 it's a no brainer.

Horses for courses and Anderson is the type of player that will make others look better - just look at how Gibbs-White gets all the praise for his forward play - and he is not a patch on the likes of Cherki.

I have watched all of Forests games in Europe this season, and I have seen Anderson struggle against low blocks teams. And that is pretty much every game for City now. Trying to break down a team with everyone behind the ball.

And his numbers have been pretty poor. 42 games, 2 goals and 3 assists. Is that an 80m signing. Is that elite? Is that even an average level for a top midfielder?

Bruno Guimarães has played 34 games, scored 9 and created 6 goals.

Even Casemiro, who is 104 years old, has scored 7 goals with 2 assists. And that was only across 29 games.

Anton Stach, a defensive midfielder, for Leeds, has out-performed Elliot Anderson this season. He has scored 4 and created 3. And he has only played 26 games.
That means he has more PL goals than Rodri, Doku and Savinho this season (two of those being wingers) and the same amount as Bernardo and Marmoush (attacker). He's a central midfielder type (Bernardo, Gundogan). Can also play as a defensive midfielder (Rodri).

He's a fiery young player, Bernardo-like movement, Rodri-like distribution. Everything but passive, I think we need him. Hopefully Forest go down to make him cheaper.

The player you are describing that City are needing the most is Bruno Guimarães. He is a box to box tackling machine. He is all over the pitch winning the ball, but can also score and assist.

I do like Guimaraes and he's having the most productive season of his career - however, for us I think given how his temperament is he would have quite a few red cards ha! Also at age 28 he is already at his prime level - with Anderson he could easily continue the improvement path he's on - he is only 23, home grown and has lots of potential to suit our needs exactly.

I'd be happy with either but I am leaning towards Anderson for the reasons above.

Knowing Hugo he'll probably go and find someone we've never heard of.

they very rarely get it wrong and I think it’s pretty much unanimous that he’s been the best midfielder in the league unless you live in the emirates. Pretty low risk imo.

It is but it's also Anderson and at 23 has potential to get better, next to Rodri and be better value.
I've seen this film before. Anderson will come in and people will complain that he isn't as creative as KDB, he doesn't arrive in the box or make runs like Bernardo, he can't tackle like Rodri or Ferdi.

He might be the shiniest thing in Forest's toolbox, but his personal stats aren't top level, and as a team, look at where Forest currently are.

I watched Ait Nori, Semenyo, Guehi, Nunes, O'Reilly et al playing against Madrid and I thought that they were way off the level of the opposition. And I haven't seen that at City for the majority of Pep's time, when we were a much closer match and able to compete at that level. People are saying that Elliot Anderson is going to push us back up to the top and I honestly can't see it.

Does he even get in England's starting 11?

Yes he does, him Rice and one other.

If you think comparing goals and assists to determine who is the better (mainly) defensive midfielder is the way to go, then you've got serious issues.

If Anderson comes to us he may get a few goals and assists, but that won't be the main reason to sign him. It's for everything else that he does.

His stats are brilliant, if you look at the ones that are relevant.

And yes, he starts every game for England.

Keane was a borderline lunatic in his playing days, but he was spot on about Saipan. Many of those lads were on a jolly, riding banana boats and getting leathered
Not sure if you saw the film but there was a funny part where Keane was on his own at the beach.
Steven Reid sat down beside him for a while and then said " Its a nice day for a swim"
Keane replies" It is, why don't you pop in for a dip and I'll mind your clothes for you"

Do you call yourself City Leaks as you believe you are in the know? Or you just like attention?

Did you not watch the game v Madrid when we were the better side for 70 min with 10 men ?

You can't compare chalk and cheese. I don't think we have actually 'replaced' anyone. Harland is not Aguero, Rodri is not Ferna, Ruben isn't Vinny and Cherki isn't KDB.

We have just adapted new signings, Of course Anderson is not KDB, but you can rest assured that he will be part of a plan, even if it is not obvious to us - if he signs.
