President Trump

I agree, I was making a side point since you mentioned Barbarossa. It is arguably even worse than Putin’s for what could be lost to the aggressors.

The reputational damage and loss of allies to the US is catastrophic. Israel’s allies in the gulf may no longer view them positively for dragging them into this and not informing them, they are rapidly losing positivity from Europe, if they have any left, and there will be a backlash by those in and around them that will put the state of Israel at greater risk.

We can’t go back to being normal with any of the countries that have started illegal wars recently, but the impact of that will be much worse with the US. I’ve always seen them as an ally and been a big proponent of Western Civilisation, I genuinely no longer see them as our ally, and if that’s true for me, it’ll be true for a lot of people I think, as I’m an average Joe.

The West has changed now, and there’s no going back. They could elected a straight down the line Democrat, someone who is a solid leader and brings all sides together, but I still will never trust them again.
Spot on.

Myopic.

You are confusing the vast majority of Americans who pass through DC’s political gates with these MAGA MORONS who think God has chosen them for these crusades.

Hopefully, this shit will get neutered by 1/1/27, and killed and buried by 1/20/29.

Don’t confuse America, and the majority of Americans, with Trump and the sycophants in his pathetic orbit.

Sure, some of the changes he’s making are structural and will take time to heal and correct, but much of the bullshit will be gone as soon as the Election results are certified…assuming Vance (or whomever is his VP might be) will certify them!

I aint into politics but my god Trump is a threat to the whole planet :( i mean would it shock you if he nuked half the world ??????

I am definitely not confusing the majority of the American public with this, I am just about bright enough to understand that within any country, there are significant portions of the population who disagree with one another but I think you are maybe underestimating the ill feeling towards the US over this, I know that is maybe hard to hear as an American.

It’s that bad that people are genuinely gobsmacked. Half of our country spent years campaigning to remain in the EU, your President has done a better job showing us why we should be in it within the last couple of months than the Remain campaign could have ever done. I did vote remain but had some Euro scepticism and felt we should have gone ahead and followed through with Brexit once it was voted for. I am now in favour of the whole hog, back into Europe two footed, EU army, closer federalism making it a super state. That’s another significant change for me.

I can only truly speak for me, I’ve gone from seeing America very positively through most of my life to that turning on its head. It’s not even the bad decision to attack Iran, it’s the absolute contempt your government has shown its allies and the rest of the world in the process.

For your sake, and the sake of sound-minded Americans, I hope you get rid of him and his MAGA cult, but things can’t go back to being the same now. From a British perspective, we need to turn back to our allies in Europe and we cannot trust your government again.

Not sure the new guy is going to do a great job of taking the focus off Epstein to be honest.

Isn't he also the guy that greenlighted the go ahead for Maxwell to be transferred from a high security prison to a cushier one? Just seemed to coincide with her not giving any testimony to authorities of course.

Unlike you, I never saw them, the US, as a benign force. And Western Civilization that we are told since birth is so wonderful is anything but. Christianity, and I absolve Jesus of any culpability, has been a pretty authoritarian institution to rival anything Hitler and Stalin managed to conjure up.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I’ve never been gullible enough to see them as benign.

Hegseth's the one to worry about not Trump tbh. Trumps an idiot and can do lots of damage. Hegseth is something different though. Would Hegseth be next in line to Trump ? Not sure how that succession works in this crazy regime.

Absolutely bang on on all accounts

I don't know if Americans underestimate the ill-feeling. It's understandable to have that reaction to being regularly insulted by crude, stupid foreign leaders.

I'm curious what you think major European militaries like Spain, Germany and Italy have put on the line for the UK that would balance out what America has contributed historically, and make them more trustworthy over a ~100-year horizon.

The idea that Trump is an anomaly might be comforting to you. The reality is the US is a seriously fucked up place where no political party represents ordinary people. Both parties are in thrall to Wall Street. And the endless wars fought across the globe, regime changes etc tell me that the US is not a force for good. They do these things for financial gain.

The US entered both world wars late in the day, and then held the UK to repayments that lasted decades. The Italians and Germans as you deliberately point out were not good actors nor indeed Spain under Franco. However times change and it is the US that is now in the grip of fascism rather than Pedro Sanchez's Spain.
