Rising damp on internal wall

Was hoping it was due poor ventilation but with it being on both sides of the wall in living room and hallway im guessing not
House was my dad's that was always warm with no ventilation , main bit in living room is behind where the settee was up against the wall
House is in swinton , any advice appreciated or recommendations for someone local

are there any water sources nearby? I only ask because I've had the same going on between lounge/kitchen/dining room and its been traced to a weeping pipe in a stud partition wall

Is it a solid floor.
If so.
I'll bet the plaster is bridging to the floor.
Take skirt of.
Take an inch of plaster off.
Skirt back on

If there's a small gap between the wall and the concrete you could paint with a tanking slurry

It's almost certainly not rising damp in the traditional sense.

As it was behind a sofa, it's more likely to be condensation due to a cold spot, although it could be a weeping pipe.

I dont want to be the bearer of bad news but I suffered the same problem blah de blah de fuckin' blah.

Torch the gaff and claim on the insurance. I'd say kick the back door in and smash the windows but what's the point when it will be a burnt out shell.

More to the point, it's Friday, the post is 5 hours old and no-one has mentioned this obvious solution yet !

Lift up the underlay & carpet to see if the floor is also damp.
Looks like the door frame is rotten at the bottom.

But how does getting half naked solve a damp problem?
I'd have thought it would increase it !

if its rising damp your insurance won't cover it (believe me 43 years as a Loss Adjuster) you could call them and ask them who do they use as a Restoration and Recovery firm or (checked on line for you) call Rainbow (used them for at least 2 decades). They can come out - monitor the damp and like as not identify the cause and then do drying with de-humidifiers once you have had the damp issue fixed if thats what it is. All discretionary as its at your cost but best to find out what is happening and why so you can deal with it.

FYI as ours is an escape of water so is covered my insurers are looking at drying the gaff out - that will involve plaster off the walls, 2 expanded doors off and replaced, floating floors up and replaced lounge and dining room, redecorating throughout, new carpets and new laminate in the kitchen. Water is a bastard. We always said a fire claim is better than a water claim. Water claims grow legs and can cost thousands - with a fire (as long as no-one is hurt) you can go in and identify what needs ripping out, what needs fixing and what needs replacing mostly from day one.

yeah - if thats chipboard floors if there was a leak somewhere you'd expect to see that showing signs of damp

Its just carpet underlay

Rainbow - unless your Insurers have one they can recommend - I looked online for Restoration and Recovery contractors in the Swinton area and Rainbow were the one's I used before I retired 4 years ago. As I say its about finding out whats going on so you can take actions to stop the damp, dry out and rectify the damage.

Out of the loop mate so no idea - just speak to them and see what they can do as an initial inspection
