The Labour Government

All this talk of fuel shortages and panic buying in the media (gets clicks I know), but I’ve just been round the South Manchester area today and noticed a significant drop in traffic, and went past several petrol stations, all of which had fuel but nobody buying it.

Seems to me like most folk are voting with their wallets and telling the money grabbing cunts who set these prices to go and fuck themselves.

Obviously some journeys are necessary but definitely less traffic on the roads than usual. Would ordinarily be rammed before bank hol weekend with people going away, clocking off early from work etc.

Hopefully the wankers will be sat on massive surpluses of the stuff and realise they need to drop the prices.

I was going to do a lone drive for the Easter weekend but fucked it off, staying local now. Admittedly I drive an old diesel that doesn’t get brilliant MPG.

I can afford it but refuse to pay it, they can fuckin do one. The gov needs to reduce fuel duty and pay for it via a windfall tax on the fuel companies

Many may have already filled up their cars in anticipation of further hikes.

Reducing fuel duty wouldn’t see sellers profits fall, so not sure what point you are trying to make

Johnson was an utter useless corrupt awful **** but how do you think Ukraine would’ve panned out with a Corbyn government? The thought of it is horrifying.

For clarity in that election I did what I’ve done in every general election since 2015, voted Lib Dem because there was no better option in my constituency.

I’ve just counted. I’ve voted in GEs since 1992. Nine GEs.

I’ve voted Labour three times and Libdem six.

Completely agree with you on Ukraine. That is Johnson’s only point of mitigation.

The biggest problem is that many of those claiming Universal Credit are those in work. Which is scandalous when you think of it. In some regions, over 30% of claimants are in work but still receiving support.
Pay people a decent wage. My parents were a one income couple (nothing fancy, he had a job in engineering) with a mortgage and managed to raise 4 children. They had a car and we also managed a holiday every year. Plus, there was money left over for days out and hobbies etc.
Where the hell did that world go?

Having just completed my campervan build I’m bloody gutted, I anticipated the fuel hike and managed to fill up at £1.50 at Costco it’s now £1.75! I’ll not be going far now as it’s going to cost a fortune going forward, might just sleep in it on the drive, ha ha .

Same here in the main although later on my mum had a job for a while but not until we were teenagers. We wanted for nothing on a modest wage. Had a car and holidayed in this country once a year for 2 weeks plus days out etc

People voted for Thatcher, neo-liberalism and 'lower taxes'. It destroyed what had been a relatively stable society (in historical terms) and replaced it with dog-eat-dog and sheer, unadulterated greed and selfishness. That has led inexorably to where we are now, and getting off the ride will be very hard, if not impossible. The modern version of the Fall of Soviet Communism.

Of course, according to Reform, it's all the fault of brown people.

In all the attention rapidly rising prices rightly brings on these private companies, it’s also important to remember the biggest benefactor of this current round of price gouging is indeed the government.

They need to act and fucking fast and I don’t mean some more of the usual gaslighting shite about how they suspended the 5p increase again.

RIP off Britain at its worst and the government is front and centre of some of it!

But if demand is down because of the cost, tax revenues will also reduce.

The tax is fixed so it's only the VAT and the actual price of oil that is variable. The VAT makes up a relatively small portion of the overall cost. But of course if people use less, then the tax take reduces. How much do you think they should reduce the taxation by and from which part of the costs should it come?
