That's so clever. That just stopping the ball like that makes the right back and van dijk almost halt for a split second then, but he released it so quickly just as they were about to stop. They didn't stop their runs dead but they were just about to and they lost a split second. That's all it takes to give Semenyo a bit more space.
He's not just doing it for no reason. It was done to basically take away the ability from the defenders to read what's going to happen. Semenyo was always getting the ball there, it was all about when. Football at that level is played in split second.
