You think someone putting themselves in the shoes of another and speculating as to what might be a good strategy for them is the same thing as advocating for that strategy? The former is an example of one of the core tenets of critical thinking, otherwise how do you pre-empt their actions and develop counter strategies? I'd be worried if people weren't speculating and discussing the consequences of these kinds of things.

The IRGC and any hardliners in Iran can now point to Mike Pompeo saying Mossad stirred up the protests and Trump saying they armed them to justify what happened in January.

I always had this suspicion that the protesters were armed, considering the high number of casualties. Now, they are talking openly about it, the same strategy they did in Syria with the Free Syrian Army and Iraq with the Northern Alliance.

It was my opinion regarding what I would consider as an Iranian response to my country being decimated by a militarily superior force.

If I was looking at the situation from an Iranian perspective, with this being an illegal act of aggression on my country, then the accepted rules of war wouldn't apply and I would want to hurt the enemy as much and as hard as I could in response.

Are we saying that the precedent is set that another country can assess the fitness of your leaders, dictate that you can't have nuclear weapons on the basis of that assessment and then use force against civilian infrastructure if you refuse?

I wonder how the US would react if they were told there were lunatics in charge, lunatics can't be in charge of nuclear weapons and therefore if they didn't give them up we would bomb all their infrastructure? It would surely be a positive reaction as we'd only be doing what they consider to be the right thing.

I absolutely get there being a concern about Iran having nuclear weapons. I also get that we should probably try to persuade them not to develop them, and sanctions were a reasonable attempt to do so. Maybe there's more we could have done to influence their decision-making with carrots too. What I don't understand is why countries think they have a right to enforce their own opinions on others.

By no means am I pro-CCP, but I don't object to some of their recent rhetoric about a need for more balance in the world.
