"We aren’t the global powerhouse our club seem to think we are"

WE ARE, whatever you think mate

Sorry, but ignoring the language of "global powerhouse" for a second, he's right in that we've got a hardcore support of about 40-45k who go to every home game, and there probably would be c10k who would go to every away game were it possible. on top of that there's a fanbase of c100k who go anytime between once and a dozen times a year- these people don't go more often due to a combination of cost, difficulty of getting tickets, and the club's restrictions on enticing new people into the fold.

The rest are one-offs, tourists, call them what you will - and up to last year, filled in any gaps - maybe the success, maybe the Haaland factor, who knows, but these people aren't around this year and wont do midweeks at the Etihad. The club probably relied on them being there and so kept pricing and availability high for them and are now finding out they need the local and new support more than they thought.

So, when you've got 33000 seats to fill 200 miles away for a match without a trophy, there's a big challenge there. No potential historic outcome at the end, expense and hassle of getting there/back, and its live on council telly.

We really are in the worst position on this compared to EVERY other club - it's not a rare occasion (yes it could be the last time ever but no-one really believes that), its now not a special day out, we're 200 miles away unlike most of the rest of the Premier League and any other opposition we may meet at Wembley, and we don't have the slack filled by thousands flying every week from Ireland or Scandinavia.

So 25k going is a great thing, we should be proud of that.

Here come the people who just want to argue. In terms of global fans we aren’t there yet, that’s why we are struggling to shift seats for home games at the minute. That’s why we can’t sell Wembley out for a semi final in the capital.

It’s not a criticism, we have a great core support and I’m proud of it.
Just stating a fact that you were wrong.

I believe we still get 45% of the gate money less costs, on top of that there's prize money.
Still - when was that the case for a semi?

We get end up with 13.82% of the net gate reciepts both semis pooled

Final we just get prize money no gate.

Net get receipts get 5.5% taken before the clubs get 58.5% of the 94.5%.

So there is an incentive to sell them, but it will be about £300K give or take from our own tickets, the majority from the other clubs and neutrals etc.

L1: 3,060
L2: 432
L5: 2,300

Total Left: 5,792 (+ Approx 5,500 - 6,500)

About 400 Sold this morning, and an extra 100 were added to level 1 earlier.
That's pretty encouraging, we sold around 900 yesterday and look to be on for the same today. Keep that going for the next few days and we will be around 25,000.

I hope so mate, it will gradually start to slow down, but I'm now confident there'll be more than 25,000 sold by matchday.

A big win for us tomorrow could do wonders for sales too, I'd be really interested to see how much that speeds up sales

Its not just all about how many fans come through the gate, look at Barca and Madrid, not always full ?
Are they not global powerhouses clubs ?
FWIW I agree with both you (for a change!) and the other poster as both points are valid for me.

No-one can deny that our global support has grown hugely since the takeover. However, the issue with regards games like this is where most of that growth has come from. We’ve got fans in Scandinavia and Ireland - and have had for decades - but it’s dwarfed by the number of fans United and Liverpool have in those countries. As such, it’s a short flight over the North Sea and a short flight/ferry over the Irish Sea for thousands of their fans, not just for home games but also for these matches at Wembley.

In contrast, much of the growth in our support has happened in countries further afield. The States in particular has seen our support grow exponentially in recent years, but it’s a lot harder and a lot more expensive for fans to undertake a journey to London from there than it is for fans to do it from Norway and Ireland.

Yes I boycotted that haha, couldn’t believe how quickly it sold out. Like you say demand has waned since.
To be fair I think that game sold out because it was against Arsenal. Those same newcomers/ tourists were no where to be seen against Sheffield United or games this season against newscastle or Brentford

Least we are making money off the other 3 clubs selling out then :-)

Must be just the earlier rounds where teams get 45% each and FA 10% then I thought it applied to Wembley as well silly me.

Scandinavia & Ireland isn't that important to Utd & Liverpool attendances.
It's UK based fans in every town and city across the entire country. Plus, of course, them both having huge local support as well across the entire north west & into Yorkshire.

Yep. Zero geographical links to either City and can’t be arsed supporting their local teams. Definition of plastic fans. And they’ll be all over social media taking about empty seats next week.
