Gabriel headbutt on Haaland

Retrospective ban incoming.
I don't think
Are retrospective bans still a thing? Seems to be an unspoken rule now that if var passes any decision, correct or incorrect, then there can be no follow up action.

They can literally then even say var got it wrong and issue the class Webb pointless apology, without actually going back and applying retrospective action.

Interesting.

I have a slightly different take as I'm focusing on the match itself, not the following possibilities.

In retrospect, I'm GLAD Gabriel stayed on, cos there would have been less likely a chance we'd have beaten 10 men bedding in to save a point. There'd have been no spaces as the Arse wouldn't ventured out, so much. Taylor, inadvertently, helped us on the pitch as a result.

Yes, Gabriel may play the next matches but, as has been said, there may yet be a panel review of the incident, so who knows?

I’ve watched the game back and without emotion I actually thought Taylor had a good game. Football fans will always think the ref was against their team. I’ve seen Arsenal tv interviews lamenting Taylor’s performance yesterday for example.

One example I can give is towards the end when nunes eases their full back off the ball. If Taylor really was bent and anti city he would have gave that a free kick. He let a lot go and I actually think he had a good game.

You can’t underestimate how difficult it must be to referee a game like yesterday.

Now as the headbutt is concerned. I believe Taylor didn’t see it. The blame with that lies at the door of whoever was in charge of VAR. it’s a sending off. Haaland doesn’t react and that is what saves Gabriel. You could see in the face of Gabriel he knew in that one moment he had lost his head.
I thought Taylor was pretty good. He stopped most of the Arsenal nonsense. Not much time wasting, no fake injuries, no time-outs. He let the game flow. The head butt was a red but it was a fair battle overall. Taylor made a few mistakes but overall did ok for me. The players did seem to respect him.

Well it would be interesting to see what any of the referees would do if one of our players did the same. There appears to be a total lack of consistency and varying interpretations of The Laws of the Game.
Rules both on and off the field of play are for City to observe pedantically.
Other teams are allowed measures of observance from pedantic to ignored.

I think that has always been the case since our owner took charge, they simply don't like him.

You'll all be shocked to hear Dermot Gallagher on ref watch say he thinks the ref got it right and a yellow each was pretty fair.

He also claimed it would have been a different scenario had Haaland gone down. Why? The offence is exactly the same so he is effectively admitting play acting turns a yellow into a red. That's a disgraceful and damaging admission for the state of the game.

I thought there couldn’t be retrospective action as the cheat, ref sorry, yellow carded him? If that’s not the case then he should be banned

It was as clear a red card as you're likely to see.

Funny a lot of Arsenal fans say the same but you read listen watch to ex referees they say Taylor made the right choice! This what pisses most fans of because they are encouraging diving! Because I’ll guarantee if that was Gabriel being head butted he would be rolling around in the floor! Taylor would have given a red or var would off and he would be missing 3 games! Either send Gabriel off or give a yellow for the same even if a player dives after it! Gabriel missing the next 3 games would have made it harder for Arsenal! Funny referees playing the sensible card when it’s always Man City..

We were already 2-1 up at that point though, so we wouldn’t have had to break them down.

It could be crucial to have Gabriel suspended for the next 3 games.

Crazy, in other words they had a lot of scuffles, Haaland started one of them and then Haaland was rightly headbutted so a yellow for both was fair? These refs are utterly ridiculous.

We all know he wasn't red carded because it was a big game and that's that. Any other game and he's gone. Gallagher has always been a twat just protecting the refs.

I can remember when Rodri was booted off the ball whilst taking a shot in the forest home game and Gallagher said Rodri fouled him.

The whole 'he should have gone down' thing is pretty common now, I hope (ha!) this is making law makers and officiating bodies think about the way the game is reffed and what the fans want to see, which is a bit more integrity.

I remember, some seasons ago now, when Foden got rinsed in the penalty area but somehow stayed up and went on to miss a chance he might easily have put away if not fouled. This was an early example of everyone saying "he would easily have got a pen if he'd gone down". Things have moved on a bit and you hear it more and more now. I just hope someone is taking notice. We'd all love to see less diving and less arsing about but at the same time we want to see violent and aggressive conduct punished. Yesterday's head butt was a clear case of one player crossing the threshold in a very physical whole-match encounter, it absolutely did NOT require play-acting to be a red-card.

(N.B. i'm not under the illusion this was some mighty blow to the nose, rendering Haaland semi conscious etc etc, but this is a football match and some players are pushing themselves to physical and mental limits, you need to absolutely crack down on anything like this, which is completely out of line and outside the remit of the actual game).
