Burnley (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I'm determined to enjoy this run-in.

We were dead and buried in January. Bookmakers paid out on Arsenal.

Now look!

If we don't do it then it's no biggie. We were/are supposed to be building for next season and we're way ahead of the curve on that. So, with a domestic Treble now being possible it's incredible.

We had a massive game 3 days ago FFS!

Just enjoy it and let Arsenal fans do the fretting.

Really don't understand the excessive negativity.

I'd advise growing-the-fuck-up.

Arsenal play twice at home before we play again. Could be 6 points behind at Everton.
But no probs let’s deal with it

Three points, top of the league.

Away game after an exhausting battle against Arsenal just three days ago.

Anyone moaning about not scoring more needs to ask themselves if they really think Arses will win all their remaining games about 3-0. I certainly don’t.

That was a great win. The pundits are either naive or trying to create a narrative - which is why Haaland looked a bit confused by their questions.
This was not a game where we go and beat a shit, open team by loads of goals. This was a team fighting on the very last day to stay up, or at least go down fighting. This was a harder game than if they were safe. This was also a team that did everything they could to prevent us from scoring. We always struggle against teams like this. That early goal helped us because it meant we could keep possession.

Pundits emploring us to go for goals - we see what happens when we do that against teams like this. They wait for us to pour everyone forward and they go for the counter. We nullified that today whilst remaining possession and still having a chance to try to score. What you don't want to do in a title race is get caught up in the hype, go for goal and concede. Better to win 1-0 and get the points.

Great win today. Top of the league.

Spot on.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

But whether we like it or not it is totally relevant. If Arsenal score one more goal than us now and match our results they win the league.

We had a chance to really put our foot on their throat. They now have an awful out of form Newcastle side at the emirates. They score 3/4 that’s like an extra point and means a win at Everton doesn’t mean we go back top.

Not to mention they have Burnley at home penultimate game of the season. If they needed to they could realistically put about 6 past them.

It’s a poor result given the opposition
Was it fuck, it was a win. That's all that matters

Jesus christ I hope Rodri's groin is genuinely minor and he'll be back after the FA Cup semi.

It's because goal difference could be vital that's the only reason there's disappointment.

Pep picked a team with no defensive midfielder and we came absolutely flying out of the blocks and he was having hissy fits on the side of the pitch every time we botched an attack.

The people who are pretending we didn’t set out to run up some goals tonight are deluding themselves and dressing it up with toxic positivity anttacking anyone who points out the obvious is being negative.

We got the bare minimum win, and yes that’s important, but if that’s all Pep wanted he wouldn’t have picked the team he did, we wouldn’t have been leaving ourselves exposed to counter attacks all game, even in the 80th+ minute by throwing everyone forward, and he wouldn’t have been tearing his hair out on the sidelines.

We’ve all seen enough controlled solid 1 goal victories in the last 10 seasons to recognise this wasn’t one of those.

As I said page 1 the positive is that we played badly, the kind of bad game this team has once a month and still won. We’re top of the league, even though it might be fleeting. That doesn’t change the fact we missed a golden opportunity to score some goals against a Burnley team that were very poor and gave up loads of chances for us to do that, or that Pep was clearly going for - big score line.

We have recently beaten Arsenal 2-0, Chelsea 3-0 and the dippers 4-0. Bigger wins don't always come against the teams you expect. Particularly those defending for their lives (see our Spurs, Forest and West Ham results).

A win was the important thing. We are in a position that I could never have imagined us being in before the last couple of weeks. I am certainly going to enjoy being top of the league, no matter how long it lasts.

Pretty much this. I’m sleeping well tonight…
