City Kits - 2026/27

Just out of curiosity did they create that crest themselves or does it have a longer history of it being an emblem of the city of Manchester?

Looks a bit fash nazi there doesn’t it.

Created for Manchester sports.

It’s actually more closely associated with City since we wore it for nearly 20 years, including for some of the most important moments in the history of the club.

Ask a stranger who had worn it on their shirt and 99% of people who follow football are going to say City.

Cheers mate.

In 1958, H Ellis Tomlinson designed his own version of the Manchester Coat of Arms where he added a knight’s helmet with mantling waving off it with the eagle emblem repeated on it.

It’s said by some that it’s a nod to Mumucium’s Roman roots, by others it’s said that it’s to do with Manchester aviation history (two airports and the main place that the WW2 bomber was made at Avro).

United used the eagle a few months later on their FA Cup final kit.

Those mantles with the eagle on do not exist on the real coat of arms, it’s just red+yellow mantling.

City’s version of the coat of arms never had the knight’s helmet or mantling on it.

I loved the eagle badge. Can't stand the new one, but oh well, it hasn't stopped me from purchasing several shirts with the new one.

The current one is basically the Manchester City badge. It’s an evolution of the clubs historic emblems.

The eagle badge was something thrown together by a random graphic designer. 3 stars, no ‘Manchester City’, a random Latin phrase which had never ever been linked to the club…

That Latin phrase was a negative.

Superbia means an over-confidence or too much pride in yourself before a fall… that fall being In Preolio/in battle.

Glad we never took that forward with us after we changed the badge.

It was a shambles, saved only by the fact we managed to snare Kappa who produced a home and away kit that were iconic. It’s like people ignored the badge change due to how we’d got them on board and they gave us those kits.

A woman was in spoons before the Arsenal kit wearing that home one. One of the best kits we’ve ever had.

Would love a nice remake of that in our proper sky blue or an away kit like that white, navy and maroon one.

Thanks for the info, but I don't give a hoot what the history of the badge is, I still hate the new badge and love the old one.

I get them as gifts all the time and I never wear them at all other than on matchdays, sometimes if it's a special occasion like say this Sunday coming I might break into the stash and slip one on.

But walking around Waitrose? Never!
Lidl maybe, Waitrose it’s a cravat and smoking jacket.

If that’s true that’s proper City that mate. Belter.

I wouldn’t say I hate the new one but Christ it’s so over-designed. There’s too much going on and it always looks so… big. And not in a good way (that’s what she said amirightguys).

Well clearly not aye..

Just looks a bit weird imho sorry. I hated that fluorescent yellow kit last year, purely for what it wasn’t, which was Italian chic.

Yeah, I guess you need an actual connection with the club and Manchester to get it really.

There’s no need for that mate. We’re a worldwide thing now so turn it in.

A contemporary version of the 1988 away shirt.
