Burnley (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Nope, draws against chelsea and spurs, and defeat by spurs for starters.

Yes the succession of draws, especially Spurs away where we were coasting at 2-0 up, Forest, Brighton and Chelsea at home where we were leading in all games will have done for us. That's eight points we should have won and we'd be on the beach with a cigar now. That's football though, i guess Arsenal can point to similar games too.

Well Arsenal will definitely feel better knowing we could only manage to score a single goal tonight, even if us getting three points will have pissed them off ..... they will still fancy their chances, no doubt about that.
I am sure they will, but who cares? Let's just focus on winning every game.

Like someone else has posted, 9 days ago, they were 9 points clear.

Their arses have fallen out over the course of the last few weeks. In near monumental fashion.

What exactly do you think will have given Arsenal 'belief' tonight? The fact we created 28 chances away from home and only scored 1? They haven't created 28 chances in their last 5 games.

We just need to win all our games. And we completed the first part of that tonight. Don't get sucked in by the media driven narrative that this title race is going to goal difference. Because it isn't mate.
If you read mine properly you'd have seen that I said a lot more belief than at 5 past 8 - because when Erling scored so early on - when we'd already had a couple of good chances - don't tell me that you didn't think there'd be more to come?

Who cares about 9 days ago? As far as I'm concerned we have weakened our position during the course of this evening. I didn't look at the title odds but I'll bet that they've swung over to the red as a result of this match.

And I'm not sucked in by any media narrative - I form my opinions all by myself. At this stage of the season it is not about the performance, just the result. Arsenal won't be quaking in their boots because we created loads of chances - they'll be celebrating because they'll fancy their chances of sticking a few past an already relegated Burnley who just can't wait for the season to end. Effectively, that's one of the five games where they'll feel they have an edge.

If they trust themselves to play the way they did on Sunday, for the remaining matches, they'll be creating plenty of chances anyway.

It doesn't mean that I don't think we can do it - I still do - but it'll be a rockier road because of tonight.

Simeone will take a lot our of the Goons , two very tough , tight games wouldnt be surprised if it is two goalless draws and it goes to extra time and penalties , and if they lose it will demoralise them
I think it will drain them regardless of the result. They'll be desperate to go through as it could be their only remaining chance to win a trophy this season, having been (apparently) on course for the quad exactly a month ago.

But on current form there's no way they're winning their remaining 5 matches anyway. I get that our fans are nervous but Arsenal must be very demoralised at the moment.

Disagree. Arsenal are going to finish the season with a much stronger GD+ than us. We've got to hope they drop points.
Nobody has a clue how this is going to play out. We could go and stick 3 or 4 past Everton, Bournemouth and Villa, or they could grind out narrow 1–0 wins all the way through. That's football - unpredictable, messy and never as clear cut as people pretend it is.

What I don't understand is the mindset of fans who instantly jump to the worst-case scenario. If your first instinct is always doom, always assuming it'll fall apart, it says more about how you see the world than what's actually happening on the pitch. Imagine going through life wired like that - expecting disappointment before anything's even happened. It must be exhausting.

Supporting a team is meant to give you something to believe in, a bit of excitement and hope. After all that we've achieved in the manner we have, you'd think our supporters would have an over abundance of belief in this Club. I can't quite understand it myself.

Was that penalty not even checked on Bernardo unbelievable that. It was a blatant penalty

pep will give them few days off and ready for southampton
few weeks ago nobody would put us top of league at this point
sky hyping goal differance becuse they need hype their choice has fall off cliffe yes might still win it but just think of all them programes they've already made
‘ give em a few days off’ ? We play in three days!

If we beat Southampton and by some miracle Newcastle find some form again and beat Arsenal what a week it will have been. Here's hoping!

They'll beat Newcastle who are in freefall.
They'll beat Fulham who are on the beach.
They'll put 5 or 6 past Burnley like we should have imo.

Our hopes lie with West Ham and Palace (on the beach).

I was fully behind the idea of an Arsenal collapse before Sunday, but that was their best performance in months and it's down to them having Eze, Odegaard, and Havertz back in the team. Those three are going to create and score lots of goals in these last five games and we really needed to rack the goals up tonight to give ourselves a chance on the GD+ front. We've got to hope and pray that West Ham can nick something for us, otherwise we'll lose on GD+.
oh well thanks for informing us i,ve just forward it to everton

Newcastle have been finding it difficult to get the better of any team lately ... so i wouldn't be expecting a five star showing from them at Arsenal.
And you're expecting a five star showing from Arsenal, who couldn't beat a Championship side to keep their treble hopes alive then couldn't beat Bournemouth at home to keep us at bay?

Newcastle might be lower down in the table but they have won more matches than Bournemouth, so if the Cherries can win at the Emirates there's every chance Newcastle can.

All we're seeing here is just the usual bottlers...and to think Arsenal get labelled with that tag every season.
