I’ll say that. Diehard blue since birth, the most successful player in the clubs history, let alone academy product, been at the club 20 years, world class POTY calibre player when he’s healthy.

If he doesn’t deserve time and space to sort himself out then who does?

We can’t sign a player as good as a healthy Phil Foden. We can’t sign a player who loves the club as much as Phil Foden.

Anyone suggesting we sell him or don’t offer him a new contract needs their head checking. In 10 years time when he retires as the most decorated player in English football history, this little spell will be completely forgotten about and everyone saying he needs to leave will of course pretend they never said it.

And by the way, he’s still scored more goals than anyone not called Erling Haaland for us this season, some of them match winners in a title race that could be decided on goal difference.

Great post. Seeing him in the semi final a peripheral figure easily knocked off the ball makes me think he needs a long time off, rehabilitation and whatever else he requires. Even if it takes a season

I agree with the sentiment of these posts, but his contract is the issue. In a season's time he's out of contract, so do you renew it? You'd say yes, but when it comes to contracts it becomes more of a business decision. How much would you pay him and for how long going off form over the last 2 seasons? And does that match what he's asking for?

It's a tricky situation, not surprised there's not much noise around a new contract right now.

I hadn’t realized the contract situation. You’re right that it looks potentially difficult.
 
I still can’t get that image of him going around the stadium on his own after the Arsenal game, out of my head; then heading down the tunnel before the rest of the team have passed the South Stand. I found it troubling, I do hope all is well with him. He desperately needs and deserves our un equivocal support. Hope he gets back to where he was and enjoying his football,

He came over to us at full time at Burnley, gave some of his training kit to our fans, “Phil foden he’s one of our own” rang out loud, he smiled & waved back at us, Phil knows we’ve got his back, whatever difficulties he’s going through & it obv seems like he is, hopefully he’ll overcome them, & us 100% behind him will surely help, cos “Phil foden’s one of our own” ctid
 
Have loved this guy since the day he stepped on the pitch. Was mad as a 16yo seeing a lad the same age as me step onto the pitch for us.
When he's firing on all cylinders he's one of our best, never going to lose faith in one of our own, especially when we've seen what he can do.
 
This might be controversial to say since we all want him to rest this summer and comeback stronger next season with Foden, but I'd want him to go to the world cup. Its the biggest tournament in football, I'm just thinking if it's maybe a confidence / mental issue, not being picked for the world cup could be devastating for his confidence.

But going to tournaments has been what has shot his confidence before, I think.

May be wrong, but I always feel that Bellingham's presence has an effect upon Phil, on and off the pitch.

No concrete grounds for that, just a feeling.

Might be different if he goes this time - Tuchel doesn't seem to be a Bellingham fanboy.

Top level spor,t as any business, is pretty ruthless, it has to be if you're going to succeed.
As much as we all love Phil and are grateful for what he's given to the team and us the fans, the question is how long do we wait for him to regain his form? In two seasons now we've rarely seen it. Even worse he's been totally ineffective when he has been given a start, like the fa cup semi final.
None of us know why his form has dipped so dramatically but unless it improves i don't see a new contract offer from the club.

I think missing out on the World Cup would be another hit to his confidence.

Best case scenario is probably the most likely, he goes but plays a very small part, doesn’t have loads of expectations on his shoulders and hopefully he has a good game or two.

Tuchel clearly rates him very highly and has confidence in him which can only be a good thing.
