Pep to leave at the end of the season

Well if the consensus is that none of us really know, I’ll throw my two’penneth in and say I think he’ll leave this summer.
To go out on a wave of lifting two or three of the four trophies available every season would be magnificent, and he’s put together a team to take the club forward and moulded it into something special as this season has progressed.
Leaving us in good shape, in other words. Which I’m sure is the way he’s always wanted leave.

Maybe it will be a year of Maresca before Vinny comes back, esp if he guides Munich to the CL this season. Who knows. But the way Pep has been sounding and talking this season, I’m 80/20 that he’ll say, I’ve done a decade, and Farewell.

Just posted in the Guardiola thread, but have been told by someone who’d know that Maresca is indeed taking over from Guardiola at the end of the season. Can see the logic, but feels like a bit of an uninspiring choice to me. Wish him all the best though, it’s some big boots to fill!

Gutted, hopefully changes his mind in the next month.

If it's Maresca he has to hit the ground running or Kompany/Enrique will be coming through that door fairly quick.

This might help a few of us prepare to soften the blow, should it come to pass.

But I'll still choose to hold out that next season juat continues as normal.

I'm relaxed because over the last decade I've figured out 4 habits Pep just cannot seem to quit no matter what:

1. going with wingers instead of a 4-4-2.

2. going back to out of form senior players out of loyalty over those who made a new system work.

3. panicing after every goal conceded and needing water to calm down.

4. managing City

It's an OCD thing with him.. think he'll be there longer than people especially the media think!

Laughed at number 3. Definitely something I'd picked up on too. Swig of water whilst sitting down in a strop.

i think pep will stay, but if maresca does take over it does seem like a short term role like pellegrini ( for pep ) until kompany is ready , pep himself has praised a few coaches through the years but Khaldoon has always held kompany in high regard

The main reason players want to join us is playing under Pep, not because they have any particular love of the club we all love. Can’t see the same being true of Maresca, I would have thought he’d be more likely to get players to walk away from us than the other way round. I desperately hope these rumours aren’t true but if so I guess all good things come to an end, and with Pep “all good things” is the understatement of the decade. If Pep does go I would of course love Vinny to come but the worry there is that Vinny may have moved on and quite like what he’s doing at Bayern. Maresca is a pale shadow of Pep and Vinny

I think it’s the perfect choice.

Whoever takes over from Pep is on a hiding to nothing. We’ll just have to have a couple of years being a ‘normal’ good team.

Maybe we all need sort of a re-set as Pep has made us realise all our dreams. I don’t think we get as excited about achievements as we used to anymore.

Then King Kompany can return, in a couple of seasons, and the feel good factor will return.

Not a great shock but I'd still be gutted.

Not a huge fan of Maresca but he knows the club and you can't really judge him at Chelsea as that place is a fucking circus.

Surely you would think Vinny is lined up in a couple of years

Don’t underestimate what Vinny is doing in Munich, and I believe they want him to sign a contract extension

I think Maresca is really underatted. It was a pre season cup but he fully exposed that PSG team. They also demolished Fliks Barca team 3 nil in the Champions league, he also out thought and exposed Liverpool last season at home

Hi Enzo. ;)

I wonder could the OP take Marescas name out of the thread title, I feel very uneasy every time I see his name linked with the job.

Coatigan and Billy Shears will be telling you, you are talking rubbish soon :) It was starting to mae sense with the new stand opening and being named after him, plus ten year celebrations etc.

Maresca such an uninspiring choice but perhaps that’s what they were after. PL experience and all that. It’s going to be depressing going to back to an ordinary coach

I’ve always doubted that a big name would want to succeed Pep, give it a few years and maybe then. They say never succeed a great leader and that feels apt here.

Look at the state Chelsea are in without him too. Vinnie is ready now, but it’s probably better in the long run that he carries on defining his craft in another league.

If Maresca is coming, I’d love for someone like Fernandinho to be his assistant.

Welcome to both Enzo Maresca & Enzo Fernandez.

Hope it's not true, but if it is then Pep will have his reasons.

I wasn't convinced by Maresca when the links were first made, but anyone following Pep must have the unwavering support of the fans - it's a hard enough job as it is.

Trust the club. Trust Pep.
