I've heard and read the same mate. I understand that analytics plays an important role in modern football, and that managers must work within certain boundaries, but it looks that Chelsea goes too far. There are far too many busy cunts who don't appear to know what they're doing instructing the manager what he can and cannot do, including what substitutes he can make. I'm unsure about Maresca's appointment; if it happens, I'd prefer Iraola, but I wouldn't consider his time at Chelsea as a benchmark; that club is a shambles. Not sure where you’ve heard that from mate?. Of course, the other staff would have input (as they would at any club) but I’m struggling to accept they were “dictating” decision making to him.
I’m sure Pep is an inspiration for most coaches and most are “mentored” purely by watching City games.Yeah and he never ever interacted with him apart from this, Maresca has called him his inspiration and mentor, many young coaches have visited Pep and spent time learning his methods without directly working full time with him for years
Maresca repeatedly asked for good experienced defenders that could play his way, Chelsea repeatedly bought him young inexperienced attacking players. He wasn’t there that long and his first job was to try and find a manageable sized squad to work with ,creating his ‘bomb squad’ .Yet in 18 months he managed 2 trophies, and a 4 th place finish. Not really mate. He got relegated with a squad every manager on the planet would’ve got relegated with. But, you could see what he was trying to do. You could see his coaching level. He just didn’t have the players to execute it. You could see his drive, character, standards and will to win. For me, Vinny presented as too big for the job.
Maresca had an extremely expensive squad packed with the best young players around, yet I could never see what his philosophy was. He seemed unable to know his best 11 and stick with it. His in game management was poor, often making bizarre substitutions or waiting far too long to make any. With the squad and infrastructure at Chelsea he should have done much, much better. In contrast to Vinny, for me, he appeared too “small” for the role.
In the treble year too. Then 12 months with Pep as assistant
He was assistant for 12 MONTHS ! So 12 months full on with Pep.I’m sure Pep is an inspiration for most coaches and most are “mentored” purely by watching City games.
That’s not the same as being “trained” by Pep, mate.
Arteta will have been “trained” by Pep as he was his assistant, day to day, for years. Maresca different kettle of fish.

It gets shelved for 2 years only to be bumped in 2028What happens to this thread when Pep announces he's just signed another two year extension?
I think the interweb will implode :p

I have no idea what his ceiling is as a coach, because I have no way of having that detailed knowledge of him, or whether IF Pep does go the club have identified him as the best current option available. I do know for sure a lot of time, work and thought and checks will have gone into the process.
“I asked the owners for defensive reinforcements, but they shut me down. Instead, they keep bringing in young players.”
“I’ve told them that’s not how you build a team. You need balance, experience, and a solid foundation at the back to truly compete.”
He added that without addressing the defensive issues, the team will continue to struggle against top opposition, no matter the attacking talent being brought in.
This criteria is often mentioned and could apply to many if that's what we're looking for as our next manager (as seen above by simply switching out Maresca for Arteta). Using it to justify a potential Maresca appointment simply isn't convincing enough for me, although of course the City hierarchy couldn't give a shit what I think.Arteta trained by Pep, plays similar systems to Pep, has dealt with overpaid self indulgent players, not what seems to be our more level headed players with no egos, knows the club inside out, highly spoken of by Arsenal squad.
On paper it seems like a sensible idea for a smooth continuation, and only the media and ourselves could derail it with negativity from the off.
There’s no way of knowing it’s absolutely true but there’s a lot of rumours Maresca went mad at Chelsea and essentially got himself sacked by saying he wanted a move, because the board at Chelsea were interfering with his team selection and subs. He was picking and making decisions on merit, as any manager worth anything would, and the board wanted whoever they had paid the most for or had the biggest wages on the pitch, regardless of form or the situation. I don’t know if that was true but that’s the rumour. Not sure where you’ve heard that from mate?. Of course, the other staff would have input (as they would at any club) but I’m struggling to accept they were “dictating” decision making to him.
One season as a part of Pep’s first team staff. Hardly going to turn him into a worthy successor. He was assistant for 12 MONTHS ! So 12 months full on with Pep.
If Maresca is coming Pep would definately have recommended him.
Lego head who may well end the season with a CL and PL double?Peps take an interest in the youth and EDS so it is more than a tear in 2023 as assistant, Maresca will have been learning from pep while in our youth set up so it's more than just a few months of knowledge or by watching us play.
Plus lego head seems to. have learnt fuck all in his time with pep judging by the shite he serves up and those hilarious dressing room videos of his team talks
That was called a wank sock in my dayAnd hopefully Willy will bring his gloves in case we get to a penalty shoot-out.
Absolutely it will. What happens to this thread when Pep announces he's just signed another two year extension?

Because the intense speculation last year was too much of a distraction, so announcing a 2 year extension which both knew would only be for 1 year in reality's, somewhat reduced the constant mothering regards him leaving at the end of this season. The thing i still don't understand and i apologise if it's been answered on here already but whilst we all knew the day would come when Pep left, why isn't he seeing out his contract, why is he walking away from his contract ?
