Pep to leave at the end of the season

From the Guardian reporting on the embargoed press conf:

“The hours before the game, I feel it [pressure] but the process between games I am more calm. Last season was 24 hours thinking ‘what will happen at the club if we will not qualify for the Champions League?’ I felt it a lot,” Guardiola said. “This season we won the Carabao Cup, [reached the] FA Cup final again and still fighting against Arsenal, so what can I say? It is really good. I would have loved to go through in the Champions League but the level is higher and it will be good learnings for me for the next season.”

Its a strange thing to say for someone who has already made a decision to leave.

Yes, I noticed this and I agree with you.

I think the lure of building another young team will prove too tempting for him.

Top journalist in Turkey so that adds more smoke

One of Fenerbahçe's presidential candidates met with Technical Director Enzo Maresca. Maresca said he will meet with Manchester City after Pep Guardiola and that he is waiting for that.

I think Maresca has reached a preliminary agreement with City for after Pep...

Considering the way that City operate then Im surprised that Maresca has been so vocal about taking over from Pep. It appears that the final straw at Chelsea was a result of him telling Chelsea that City had spoken to him now he's telling prospective employers that he waiting for the City job

The story about Pep leaving seems to have come from a single source first aired by Ornstein who, is generally reliable but any journalist would be more than eager to get the story first and if it happens then it will boost his already inflated reputation

Personally I doubt that City have only spoken to Maresca, if so none of the others have leaked anything So, either he is the chosen one and the others, if there are any, are staying silent or he's making more of it than there actually is

The journos were trying to tempt him into talking about his time at City as though it was coming to a close, which he didn't bit as he's too cleaver for that.
He has dropped a lot of hints about next season, one journo picked him up in talking about City as we and he replied that City will always be we.

Or maybe, now they've finally qualified for the CL, he's going to united. No, really, stop laughing, it could happen.

“It was 4 May 2011, and the pair sat together in the stands of Old Trafford watching Sir Alex Ferguson’s team beat Schalke 4-1. Once again Pep had turned to his friend and said: ‘I like this atmosphere. I could see myself coaching here one day.’ Guardiola has always felt a deep admiration, almost veneration, for the legendary teams and players of Europe.”

Forgive me if this has already been suggested, but assuming Pep isn't going to extend his contract again and Maresca would be a good replacement, why would the club not bring Maresca in now as Pep's assistant for next season and to take over for 2027-28 season - offering the smoothest of transitions?

Not a cat in hells chance mate.

I know I've said this before, but it keeps coming up so I'll say it again for anyone that might want to consider it.

The one thing I am 100% convinced about, is that stay or go, the opening of the stand is completely unrelated, and the apparent timing is purely coincidental.

They are not 'rushing' to get it open for one game (well they are, but not out of turn but to make up for delays), they are not 'bringing the opening forward for a farewell' etc. or other such conclusions.

The stand was always planned to be open this season. Publicly reported in Sisk's own programme as end of December 25, then early 2026, then 'this season', and now officially the Villa game.

Which is literally the last chance to fulfill their pre-agreed contractual obligation, before it goes from delays to a potential breach and damages. It has also been claimed by some involved, that it is a funding requirement for the club, to open this season. So the Villa game would always have had to happen, with or without Pep going.

They probably always would have named it after him anyway, that's as safe a guess to make as any.

It may well turn out those two things overlap, and it ends up being this emotional farewell etc. But if it does it will be out of opportunity and not by design or intent, and I don't think it can be read into as a sign that he is leaving.

Methinks the club has ‘leaked’ the news of Pep’s imminent departure to a select person/small group internally in order to smoke out a leaker(s).

I know nothing but I know this. Pep Guardiola has been steadfast his entire career. He.does.not.break.contracts. He will be here next season, 100% guaranteed. Indeed I wouldn’t rule out a further two years extension at some point in the next 6-12 months being announced. Out of the blue.

There will be a lot of egg on a fair few faces when the season begins in August and the bald genius is still on the touchline. They will spin it as “he wanted to go out as a title winner” if we do not won this season, or “He wanted to defend his title with his new team” if (when) we do it this season. Either way he WILL be here next season.

What if Maresca has indeed reached an agreement with CFG but for Girona since Michel’s contract is up in the summer. If he does well enough and exceeds expectations, he comes in after Pep’s contract ends next season, or if Pep extends he simply stays there until another big opportunity. Just food for thought.

Easy to assume he only wants a CL club but he has not warranted the level of an elite manager’s label that should be taking charge of City post-Pep.

After the pain of a poor playing season knowing Pelegrini was leaving at the end of it I wouldnt be surprised if the club think the best way of dealing with Pep going is a short sharp shock method . . . not a long winded emotional mass Blue crying fest that it would be
Yeah, this has also crossed my mind. After Bernardo’s and Stones farewell speech, Pep may also announce he’s leaving.

I think we are all guessing at this point. I’ve felt for a few months if we win the league, he leaves on a high.

He has always said he won’t leave until 115 is resolved. So fuck knows.

I think the 115 bs will finally be quashed soon enough. It has to be. I can understand why releasing the verdict mid season was not viable

Think the last paragraph is a very good point.

I guess the good thing is that we'll find out definitively one way or the other in the next three weeks. It's obviously not going to run on into the summer.
I have said this previously. If no news or announcements come out soon, at what point do we accept he is staying?

Realistically, well they would have already announced something like that by now. But if not for whatever reason, the only real chance at it without potentially derailing a good chance at a treble or then handing it in a way that is less than worthy of its magnitude, would imo be either immediately after the FA cup final, ahead of the last game vs villa, or within a week after the last game.
