Hugo Viana | Director of Football

I hope he doesn’t go for kroupi so we end up playing him on the wing. Semenyo/ Marmoush already too much

Marmoush, Reijnders, Semenyo and Nico.

That's £210m.

Marmoush and Gonzalez were Txiki signings though? Granted in agreement with Viana but Marmoush was genuinely flying in Germany and literally got us champions league football? It does seem to have gone wrong somehow but it doesnt mean he is a shite player? Reijnders was the one i was most excited about and i`m genuinely stunned it has been the way it is mate, he may go this summer if he`s not happy but he is an excellent player. Semenyo will be fine imo, blistering start and maybe feeling the pressure of a title charge at a higher level than he has ever been used to? Maybe give him more than a few months to decide he`s not good enough as a lot of his goals have got us to where we are and the trophy we have already won?

I'm not sure they were, I'm sure they worked together on them due to the rebuild that needed happening.

If you look at Marmoush he was signed after a purple patch in only the second season of his career where he hit double figures for goals. His best football came as a second striker in a position that we just simply don't play with. Nico G was signed and instantly benched for the majority of lasts season, he's played more this season due to Rodri's injury but the second Rodri returned he was benched.

Reijnders had a great debut, but since then has been a disaster and the inability to win a duel will kill you in this league.

Semenyo will continue to score goals, but you can already see his technical limitations and his inability to play in tight spaces.

We've made some good signings as well since the treble, but on the whole I'd say our resource allocation has been really poor. The signings don't seem to fit in with how we want to play.

Without Gonzalez earlier in the season when Rodri was still out, I doubt we'd be in the position we are now. He's had so few mins since then that you can't really expect him to come in and not be rusty. Marmoush also has played very few mins as of late.

Semenyo and Reijnders have had ups and downs but neither has had a full season to settle in yet both have contributed some useful goals.

At this stage, I wouldn't call them poor signings but would say that they have some questions marks against them still.

I don’t like the technical level of the players he has targeted, and I dislike the reactionary Donnarumma signing but it is too early to judge him yet. He will get better at the job as he gets the time to calibrate what type of players we need.

so he's a bit shit then
No, he’s not.

We’re rebuilding a young squad in order to compete. Every single great side has dominated, taken two years to rebuild after previous players got old and/or left and then come back challenging. The fact we’re winning trophies and still competing for the title puts us ahead of schedule.

He’s signed Donnarumma, Khusanov, Cherki, Semenyo, Guehi, who have all become first team players and done very well for us. For very good money from our perspective I might add.

He agreed with Txiki for us to sign Nico G who, when he’s given a run of games, has done a very good job for us. Similarly Marmoush who unfortunately doesn’t get a run of games but has proven he can score goals.

Then you’ve got Reijnders who’s been disappointing but not every one is going to work out.

Overall he’s done a decent job and needs to be shown some patience and a bit of time. Txiki got absolutely slated when he first came in because he was building towards Pep and people don’t offer patience in football.

Viana is building towards something. It might be a post Pep City that will suit another manager, possibly Maresca, but people need to chill the fuck out.

We’re looking at 2nd being our most likely league finish, still within a shout of winning it. We’ve got one cup in the bag and in another final.

This is a good season and better than I expected in August.

Amen! If we had won last night and Cherki had assisted Semenyo for the winner this thread would not be active and many fans just expect us to sign the likes of player through the rules we cant and them particular players may just not want to join us?

Viana has had a blinder, but as soon as we drop a point we see this thread come up in the 'new posts' area. Get a grip, in normal circumstances a point away at Everton is not a bad result, and our season could be one of the best ever in English football (in trophy terms).

99% of teams out there would snap our hands off for Cherki and Semenyo.

Like most of us.

I don't think the post was even worth a reply. It was the usual meltdown after a defeat from the clowns who think we're entitled to win every single match. I think Marmoush is one of those who needs game time, probably the same with Reijnders. It's difficult to come in and put in a top level performance, as is needed at this club, when you haven't played for weeks and some players cope with it better than others.

I know not everyone will agree with this but I think Semenyo is a little overrated. He's done Ok, I'm not knocking him but I don't think he's ever going to be a standout player. Started well as you say but then so did Marmoush and Reijnders. He wasn't up against a low press every week at Bournemouth and he tends to struggle when he's tightly marked and loses the ball a lot, or doesn't do a lot with it. I actually think Savinho is better at going past players, but it's his end product that needs to improve. I'm OK with Gonzalez, I think he's unfairly criticised. The other thing to remember is these are mostly still young players. But we give the ball away a lot more and that needs to be addressed, that's the major difference from previous sides.
