Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Our midfield being bypassed has always been our Achilles heel to a greater or lesser extent. We need a top level holding midfielder in the summer.
The difficulty, as it is with the striker role, is that world-class holding midfielders do not come to be sat on the bench. Rodri is the world's best holding midfielder, as Erling would be most people's pick for the best striker. The reality is that we need someone to replace Berni, who is capable of playing the CDM role, and to play alongside Rodri, or in his place. That is not easy to fill, but we will, and will need to be patient because nobody in world football will come in for Rodri and be him.

Everton Man United draw at old Trafford opened the doors for a our title win

Who know this draw might open the door for arsenal
The door for them was never really closed, we have caught up and in with a chance, less of a chance now though.

A team being allowed to rack up a 6 point lead with the only contender not actually playing is not right though.

Fortunate for them but makes the title run in a bit of a mockery.

I think its good to have a bit different player on the other wing, but it has to be better than our current options. Semenyo and Savinho could be good subtitions, not starting wingers for City.
I think Sav goes in the summer, and hopefully we can bring in a top quality wide player, with Senenyo acting as an impact sub.

Having had a few moments to revisit my posts after the game - I will say the through ball from Kovacic was a quality pass - I was perhaps a little unfair but even so, I still think he was at fault for their 3rd goal- stay on his feet and get between man and ball and the move was over - he just hasn't got the pace anymore and for that reason he must move on and we need to buy another top class centre now Bernie is off.

I stick with my opinion of Phil - the season end can't come soon enough for him. I hope he can reset and get back in track because at the moment he is not giving us enough.

For next year we must get a player in the middle that plays on the edge and wins 50/50's - that will allow our attacking players room to work with. Anderson has looked good recently but it will come down to how much we would have to pay. There must be others that fit that role for less but it is a key position.

Come on you Hammers at the weekend...
On the third goal Guehi stops running as he thinks kovacic has him..again you should err on the side of caution and cover him. He (Guehi) could have got him I feel.

Yet another game where we didn't take advantage of our chances. Much like Burnley and Southampton.
We did miss one or two chances, but Everton probably had more shots than we did in the 2nd half ..... it was just rank bad defending that let us down last night, if you score three goals away from home you would generally expect to win the game.

Guehi's lack of awareness, passing, and focus was suspect all night ... and we just didn't do enough to clear that corner kick, or get to the ball first ... yet we knew beforehand of Evertons height, their strengths, and their threat at set pieces.

My sentiments entirely, to allow a team a 2 game advantage at this stage of the title run in was ludicrous and so advantageous, you couldn’t make it up.

Guehi, like Semenyo, while they've done okay since they arrived, have to realise they're not at Palace and Bournmouth anymore and have to take their game to the next level, both mentally and performance wise if they want to succeed here. At their old clubs misses and mistakes would be shrugged off because the expectations and stakes weren't as high. Here they are.

I don't know what was going, who was at fault for this, but it was definitely a communication breakdown in the 2nd half today. Loads of times we had players playing back when they had so much space to turn into, then players holding onto the ball too long under pressure.

Even Cherki was doing it at times which was just weird, that guy normally exploits any space, but at least a couple of times the ball was played into him, in space, and he popped it back first time when there was no need.
Do you not think they're told to do this and keep possession at all costs?

Probably blown it now, but you never know, that point could be vital yet. Strange performance, only Doku O'Reilly and Haaland with any credit. Others like Bernie, Donna and Khus were great in parts but had brainfarts in others. Nico , Nunes, Semenyo and Guehi and Cherki had shockers.

Great goal from Haaland, and he deserves credit for dragging us back into it ... but he was practically non existent otherwise ..... where was he when Semenyo put that early low cross into the six yard box ??? And, as one of our tallest players, why didn't he take it upon himself to get to that Everton corner, or at least try to put the scorer off ???

Everton had far better chances than we did. Ndiaye was guilty of poor finishing

No idea why he flagged. Or why he didn't keep up with play. In his mind, playing the old rules.

I don't know why Guehi didn't just think 'safety first', and just smash the ball high into the stand .... as any Arsenal defender would probably have done !

Looking at last night’s match stats though, he did some accurate passing, not the finished article yet.

No, now they can draw and still end up with the title.

No matter what we do now, we aren't in control of it though. Not unless they drop points.

Spot on ... Arsenal are five points ahead of us ..... it's us that needs to be doing the winning !

All we did last night was give Arsenal a helping hand ... the damage has probably already been done though.

Thanks Doku for that goal, keeps us in it, on we go, fight till the end. Who walked out before the end? Don’t give Sky any excuses!

Erl was pressing hard last night and the single chance he got he took with aplomb. He’s been ropey at times this season but not last night. The low block 10 behind the ball shiz negates his game tho

I agree but his and others mistakes cost us. At the very highest level you can't just look good in parts and then switch off as the stakes are so high. He'd look great at Palace because he stands out amongst less talented players. Mistakes are shrugged off more easily there, not here. Look I'm not slating the lad on the whole he's been decent but he's playing with the big boys now.

Putting to one side Everton’s thuggery, this season was always going to be a bridge to far with the injuries and loss of form of some players. For City to win the league we have to be twenty points better than the next, taking into account the way we are screwed over by PIGMOB week in week out, it’s amazing we’ve done it so often but this season we have fallen short of that target. Let’s win the FA Cup to add to our collection!

What were people’s thoughts on the new stadium
Underwhelming

I’d heard great things about it but off the TV my first impression was that I couldn’t see what the fuss was all about

After finally seeing it in the flesh my first impression was correct
