Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

When Arsenal win the league. It will be us that has bottled it.

Utter nonsense.

Bottling is when you’ve got a free run, are miles odds on favourites and then screw it up.

Until the last month or so we haven’t even looked like contending for the title. I think it’s fair to say we’re in a better position than anyone thought we would be just 3 months ago.

Exactly this - what are the opposition supposed to do, stay on the hallway line and watch us creep towards their area?

'low block' is just a modern phrase describing a situation that has been around since football began.

They weren't using a 'low block' for Erling's goal, were they? Now what could possibly be the reason for that?
If teams want to deploy a low block - we are the best opposition to do this agaisnt. As like you say. We take 40 or so passes to get to their box.

Some of the chances opposition create against us, is from us losing it 20 yards from their goal and within 10 passes they are on the edge of our box and force a save/block or a goal.

Someone needs to explain this offside law to me. First picture Barry is clearly offside as the ball is played up to him

Second picture shows the player moving towards the ball so surely active from an offside position, no clear chance of a goal at this stage so why hasn't the liner put his flag up?

Guehi in comfortable control, offside resets. In my opinion it's not offside.

we had one a few seasons back that was far more contentious (Villa?); defender brought it out the air and our offside striker came behind him and nicked it and scored. And that was onside for sure, so this one definitely is.

Something that is really beginning to fuck me off is, despite all his positives in shot stopping, and being a fucking giant, Donnaruma is also a bit of a fucking wet wipe. He doesn't control his box at all from set pieces, 1v1 he has complete dominance but when it comes to corners he just falls about and doesn't do the basics. Can forgive errors, part of the game and they're part of learning, but he does it nearly every game. You're fucking humungous man, run through whoever is in your way and get a hand to the ball!
In terms of his shot stopping last night they were bad misses by the Everton players who hit their shots straight at him. Not difficult saves.

I'd have been really frustrated if our players had similar chances and didn't convert them.

Thats whats puzzling me if we dont play the ball what happens.
I know he did but hes fooking offside
If he's offside like a few on here are adamant it is.

Why did none of our players even remonstrate with the referee/officials.

Pep would have blown his top is there was any doubt of that being offside after the non red card

Even Guehi accepted it. He knew he fucked up.

I would have liked Dias back for these few games as he's had the experience of title run-ins, but not if he's rusty, no point bringing him back now imo

Just watched highlights.

During the period of the 3 Everton goals the Everton players were quicker to the ball and were more determined to win the ball. During that period of the game we lost momentum and control of the game. As well as individual mistakes and poor marking from the corner.

Hope springs eternal, if nothing else 93:20 and numerous times during the last 15 years has taught us it ain't over till the overweight person sings.
Too that end ,what is the concensus re. Arse in the C/L .Is it better for them to get through ,after a stressful game , and get thrashed by B.M or PSG, so the run in has distractions for them.

Absolutely he did ...... whether its offside or not, he HAS to remain focused, professional and deal competently with the situation if he hears no whistle to stop play ..... Guehi could have put that ball anywhere, out of play, in the stands, anywhere ... but instead HE plays it straight into Barrys path !

Aye we did and Sky and the football media cane down heavy in how unfair it was and the rules were changed pronto. Now forgive me if ive missed it but nobody is banging on this morning about how unfair it was that a clearly offside player can then immediately come back onside and score a goal and somehow not be deemed to be interferring with play.

Been a while since we had the 2nd half wobble, have we ever had one when Rodri has been on the pitch?

I hope Anderson is as good as everyone thinks...

Forest. He'd been on the pitch for a few dubious second half performances before that this season, but he was recovering

The amount of times Doku ragged his man and crossed in the first half should have equalled being out of sight by HT.

Great goal from Haaland, and he deserves credit for dragging us back into it ... but he was practically non existent otherwise ..... where was he when Semenyo put that early low cross into the six yard box ??? And, as one of our tallest players, why didn't he take it upon himself to get to that Everton corner, or at least try to put the scorer off ???
Jesus mate, bit harsh to criticise Haaland for his defending, in my opinion he’s been our best defender of corners/set pieces since he joined us.
