Foreign nationals don’t automatically get state benefits on arrival. I’m not going to go through all the exemptions and qualifications because it’s all out there with a simple Google search.
you’ve not followed the conversation and misunderstood the context.

Manchester la,la la.

One of the main patterns in Manchester seems to be what was the Lib Dem opposition vote collapsing and going to the Greens.

In Ardwick, the Greens won quite a close race with Labour
In Baguley, Reform won quite a close race with Labour.
In Brooklands, Reform got in by 8 votes from Labour.
In Charlestown, Reform won a close race with Labour
In Cheetham, vote split between Greens and Independent maybe allowed Labour to get in

In Chorlton, there was a turnout of 52.47% and the Greens edged out a longstanding Labour councillor.
In Chorlton Park, Greens won a competitive race with Labour.
In Clayton & Openshaw, Labour won a 3 way race from the Greens and Reform
In Crumpsall, Labour won a close race with the Greens
In Didsbury East, Lib Dem vote held up and with a similar vote to the Greens allowed longstanding Labour councillor to get in.

In Didsbury West, former Lib Dem MP and longstanding councillor got in quite comfortably
In Gorton & Abbey Hey, Greens won a 3 way race from Labour and Reform
In Harpurhey, Labour won a 3 way race from the Greens and Reform
In Higher Blackley, a strong showing from an Independent maybe allowed Reform to edge out Labour.

In Ancoats & Beswick, Deansgate, Fallowfield, Hulme, Levenshulme, Longsight, Moss Side, Old Moat, Piccadilly, Rusholme and Whalley Range the Greens got in quite comfortably

In Miles Platting & Newton Heath, Reform won a 3 way race from the Greens and Labour
In Moston, Reform won a close race with Labour
In Northenden, Labour won a 3 way race from the Greens and Reform
In Sharston, Reform won a close race with Labour
In Withington, the Greens won a 3 way race from Labour and the Lib Dems quite comfortably
In Woodhouse Park, the Greens won quite a close race with Reform

Why are the majority of them young men who have passed through many safe countries to get here?
You are just repeating right wing racist ignorance-try thinking? Do you expect 80 year old women to travel thousands of miles?

And why should everyone stop in the first ‘safe’ country-like Turkey for example?

We take a tiny percentage.

And do you think endless bombing of places like Syria, Iraq, Libya helps or hinders?

What makes you different from those people? Just blind good fortune where you were born.

On average we spend £170 a night in hotel costs for over 30,000 migrants that have arrived, the vast majority are young men.

Surely anyone with half a brain realises this is ridiculous.
We reap what we sow. The UK is partly responsible for the displacement in the world. Look at what happened in Afghanistan and the Taliban. We MADE asylum seekers and refugees. Obviously most are young men...that's normal. What would cost less...keeping our troops in Afghanistan protecting the people that are against the Taliban...the people we left in danger.. or £170 "hotels"?

We’re taking this thread off topic. Afghanistan was a complete fuck up, of that we agree and I’ll leave it there for now. We can discuss again in another thread. When I have more time I might create an immigration thread if there’s not one already.

Have you ever looked into the asylum system and the stories behind it or just jumped to conclusions ?Do you not think it’s the right thing to do ,to listen to their story and their case and treat them as individuals, than assume they are all the same and undeserving of fair and humane treatment.

The prevalence of young men among asylum seekers arriving in Europe is primarily driven by families sending one member ahead for safety and logistical reasons, the extreme danger of transit routes, and risks of conscription in home countries. While many travel through safe countries, factors like existing family ties, language skills, or the belief they can better rebuild their lives influence their final destination. [1, 2, 3]
Key Reasons for Demographics & Route Choices
  • Family "Scouts": Dangerous journeys, such as crossing the Mediterranean or illegal channel crossings, often lead families to send a young, physically capable man first. Once established, they aim to bring family members over through safer, legal routes.
  • Physical and Financial Hurdles: The journey is physically gruelling, expensive, and often controlled by smuggling networks. Young men are more likely to survive, manage the physical risks, and afford the costs.
  • Escaping Conflict and Conscription: Many young men are fleeing forced conscription by governments or militia groups, making them a specific target in conflicts.
  • Perceptions of Safety and Opportunity: While they may pass through safe countries, migrants often choose destinations where they have existing social networks, can speak the language, or believe they can work and rebuild their lives.
  • "Safe Country" Complexities: The UNHCR convention does not require refugees to claim asylum in the first safe country they reach, and many face harsh conditions or lack of protection in transit countries, pushing them further
You can so easily learn all of this yourself. There are so many reports on it...
Then why were the Ukrainians mostly women and kids?

There will always be some who bleed the system, but they are being exaggerated in number to influence the disillusioned. In what way has Doncaster been decimated by Roma? Having worked in the town before, it struggled long before any influx, IMO.
In Doncaster there is a village called Hexthorpe which has been overrun by Roma .

As someone who will never vote Labour again, as my first question would be, `how much have you taken from friends of Israel` It has to be said that councilors are not MPs, invariably Labour make better councils, so it is great fun watching watching Reform the nazi conservatives win so many councils in poor areas.
You get what you deserve :)
So that's all you're worried about? Fucking hell.

So they can be the most corrupt, useless representatives, like some of those in Oldham for example, but as long as they haven't taken a penny from Israel then they're OK. I think you've nailed your colours firmly to the mast there.

The Greens doing well in Manchester....

My ward has been won by reform, I'm not surprised. I expect to see a North/South Manchester divide between reform and the greens.
Reform have a cluster round Moston/Blackley and another cluster in Wythenshawe. The greens have done well in south Manchester - too many beards and cords round here, but better than fascists.

My point is that I don't see any alternatives to what is happening. We have to accept genuine asylum seekers. The Tory government fucked up the process over the years, and the present gov are attempting to fix that. But it's still a process we have to go through, and it will cost (haven't we agreed on some multi-billion-quid deal with France for them to stop boats leaving their coast?), and ignorant people will still cry about it. But they won't change it.
I'm not talking about general immigration.

Because those industries have been replaced by the service sector, but often not in the towns that were abandoned. With a national birthrate now at its lowest level since the war (1.4) more will be needed.
Ah I see, so you're a proponent of the utterly moronic notion of "perpetual economic growth" which is even more moronic when they try (and still hopelessly fail) to achieve "perpetual economic growth" by having perpetual population growth via mass immigration.

All "perpetual economic growth" really means is "we want ever more profits for the billionaires"

All mass immigration has done is inflated the population, its done nothing at all towards achieving this mythical and nonsensical "perpetual economic growth."

How exactly do we achieve this infinite growth in a finite system? I'm curious to know.

I could genuinely give you a comprehensive way of improving it significantly but this is a local elections thread.

Starmer is in trouble, nothing Chris Mason says makes it true or not true but if your a sitting Labour MP right now and want a job in a few years time you are considering your options

Is there an example in history of Labour changing from the Prime Minister who won the previous general election and the replacement going on to win the next general election? Brown lost, Callaghan lost, and I can't think of any other non-elected Labour PMs.
