15 | Marc Guehi - 2025/26

When did Gvardiol pass the ball to the opposition forward in our box leaving him one vs one in a run in? Or Dias?

Can't remember a Gvardiol mistake in any of the final 10 games back in 23/24 for the 4 in a row. Or a Dias mistake in any game in any run-in.

Guehi is good, but there is no need to make excuses for him by inventing crucial mistakes of the other CBs.
Lol you're taking the piss ? Gvardiol was passing the ball to the opposition in dangerous areas almost every game last season, we were killing him for it.

Can you read properly? You don't come across as the sharpest tool in the box.

Yeah I did, you're ignoring the mistakes he made because it wasn't in the run in, also Gvardiol had prime Rodri in midfield in 24, while Guehi had that shambles of a midfield at Everton.

Nope, he has a Dunne like fuck up in him in every game.
Our top pairing is Kush and Josko, having Guehl and Ruben as well, is excellent
Yeh I agree somewhat,he has gotten away with a good few mistakes in various games since he’s arrived. Great to have in the squad as you say but has been error prone

Bigger factor is probably having Ederson in goal as well, whenever our defenders were under pressure they knew they could 100% trust Eddie with a back pass, even if it was a bit shit.

I suspect Guehi under hit this one because he was so close to Donnarumma and wanted to make it easy to deal with.

Gvardiol led the league for defenders whose errors leading to opposition chances last season, and has more than any of our other defenders this season (despite missing half of it)

I like Gvardiol but let's not re-write history. 3:59 in this video almost cost us this game.

So, no example of a mistake in a *run-in* potentially costing us "the league*. Not surprised. The example from an FA cup game after us being 2 goals up (the 2nd scored by Gvardiol) confirms the point.

Last season Gvardiol was overplayed due to injuries to the other defenders. It was a heroic effort on his part. Got injured, missed the pre-season, yet our record with him has been outstanding this season, despite him playing with a physical problem. Being a/the main player in the build-up play with no Rodri around has led to mistakes, that's right, but not in crucial league games.

Can't remember another defender passing the ball to an opposition forward in the box in a *run-in* under Pep. Akanji made a bad mistake at Spurs in 23/24 but he was dispossessed in the middle of the park.

Let's hope Guehi's mistake won't be fatal this season and he will more than make up for it in the next seasons. Should have been bought in the summer. He's a very good player. Gerrard was a great player but made a similar bad mistake. It happens. Khusanov made mistakes at Everton too.

It’s a 38 game season, dropping points at Everton in the final month is no worse (or better) than losing at home to Spurs in August

I don't think so mate (I quite like your posts). Pep plays Rico in the first part of the season but never in the run-in for a reason. Our strategy is to be in a good place to compete come March and to decide the season in the run-in. Has always worked, but we have avoided bad mistakes in the run-in (until Everton).

Given our injury crisis in January, we couldn't have competed for the title without Guehi. He's a very good signing. But a bad mistake in the run-in is worse than a mistake in the first part of the season.

From a psychological standpoint it feels worse, I can agree with that. But if we’d had points on the board already from games we really should’ve capitalized on then it wouldn’t have mattered

Either way, we both rate Guehi and Gvardiol and I think we can agree our defensive depth looks far better than it did 12 months ago

Trouble is when a player doesn’t play hey get mystical greatness powers like Trafford and Bobb and gvadiol who are miles better than we have on the pitch . Provably would have been best for gueh to have gone to Liverpool and Gigi and semenyo to have gone elsewhere where they might be appreciated abit more. And the funny thing is we talk about toxic fan bases .

Guehi, like Semenyo, has done well.
If Reis joins us next season, and Gvardiol returns to full fitness, everyone will need to raise their game because the competition will be FIERCE!
My bet, long term, is that the three genuine worldies will be Khusanov, Gvardiol, and Reis, but we will need the full squad, and it is the squad that drives performance because the competition for your place is breathing down your neck.

Very good defender and he has done well in general, but Josko starts for me once he is back. Some recency bias here IMO, or maybe people rate him higher because he is English, but Guehi showed his vulnerabilities already in a few games, for example recently struggled 1v1 against Igor Thiago. Made a few big errors as well in the last month or so. Overall, he seems slower than I thought he was.

i guess time will tell once Josko is fully fit, it's easy to forget he is one of the best young defenders in the world.

Apart from Phil, my man of the match. He didn't put a foot wrong and was so calm at the back, don't think he misplaced a pass all night.

Rolls Royce of a defender , put the Everton f*ck up behind him Khusanov and Guehi are the future of the club
