Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

Doesn't look to me like Pep wants to leave anytime soon..

You can read Pep’s current demeanour in a couple of ways:

a guy who is very comfortable with himself and loving his job with no current intention of leaving it; or

he is demob happy.

I don’t know which it is but I hope it is the former.

We were discussing on way home after the game whether the situation is that Pep told the club months ago he would make a decision on his future at the end of the season and the club has lined up Maresca as a contingency.

Guess we may fond out one way or another in two weeks’ time.

Let Foden be the 8.

Put Cherki back to RW doing what Doku does.

Get Semenyo or Marmoush as a strike partner to Haaland.

All of this was evident from the 2nd half in today's game after sub's were made.
The last time we saw Semenyo in the middle behind Erling it was a disaster. Id rather play Reijnders or Marmoush at a push. But most likely, id rather Cherki just plays better.

Which game? I dont remember this ever being done and it being a disaster.

The only disaster I recall is all 3 of Haaland, Marmoush and Semenyo starting, which I knew never worked.

But in a 4222 with 2 strikers and 2 10s (Doku and Cherki) I think any of the 2 strikers I have seen paired well, and Reijnders as well as you said.

Madrid. He played the 10 behind Haaland

That game had a lot more problems than just Semenyo playing striker with Haaland.

And he was more of a striker I don't think he was a 10, all formations and heat maps I see show a clear 442 diamond.

We had Khusa at RB and Savinho playing RW barely fit.

That game I wouldn't put on Semenyo tbh.

Yeah, but thats my point. He wasn't very good in that role. I think he played it in that game an perhaps the game before or after it. Cant remember now. But he had 2 bites at it, wnd looked lost on both occasions.

Im not blaming him for our performance overall. Just that he didn't look good on that role. Because his ball control, vision and passing are some of his weakest traits.

Id rather he plays wide or the Haaland role. As q 2nd striker/10 for us, he hasnt looked very comfortable or good.

That's fair, my preference is still Marmoush or Reijnders as runners, but theoretically Semenyo should be fine there.

IMO he has looker best, besides the Real game, in a 2 striker system with Marmoush or Haaland (or a system that had him join the striker).

I think that's why his goals have dried up, he doesn't get access to the centre in the wide role which I'm not a fan of personally

I'd personally prefer the 4321 system with Cherki RW (and 1 striker) or 4222 with Cherki RAM and any 2 strikers.

do we think we see Pep next season to finish off his contract IF we don't win the league this year>
Given he’s never broken a contract, it’s safe to think he’ll be here regardless. Don’t think he’d put the club behind the 8 ball in having to prepare for next season in a World Cup summer with a new manager all at once. Leaving this summer also seems premature with where we’re at in the rebuild.

I stil get the impression he is going to still be here next season but that will be the last season at City (especially with Maresca's name being banded about)

Can’t see Maresca waiting another season, that would be odd. May be he will move on if Pep confirms he’s staying.
