Phil Foden: superb

But 3-0 is why we won’t win the league, a proper Pep team would have put them to the sword 6-0. The lack of intent shown in the second is why we ain’t winning the league.

What did I tell you?

How much do you want to bet all the melts will be saying that was a missed opportunity, that we should have played the first XI and scored six.

We could have played the first XI and only won 1-0, it's impossible to say.

We could also have played the first XI and won 9-0, lose the cup final on Saturday and still not win the league if Arsenal win their last two matches regardless of the score tonight, so the correct decision was to rest players for the trophy we're most likely to win because it's in our hands.

Good win. Pep clearly prioritising the cup final which i’m glad about. Bit sloppy at times. Good performance from Foden.
Said to my lad on the way who couldn't believe the line up.

"It's the Cup Final on Saturday, it wasn't that long ago when it was the biggest game of the season"

Quickly followed by Bournemouth

Out of these 3 games in 7 days, tonight was the one to rotate in.

Great result. Just wish there were more games left to overtake them. Bloody arsenal aren’t dropping points to Burnley and this shit Palace team are they.
Why not? They dropped points at Wolves and only won the home tie thanks to a late own goal, in fact both their goals that day were own goals if I remenber correctly. They also failed to beat a Championship side in the FA Cup.

Well Burnley have let in more goals than anyone else.
Arsenal have let in the least.
Arsenal are at home.
We have a +1 goal difference after today.
We have a tricky away game against a team on a winning run better than ours.
They have final game against a team in a final a few days later. We have Villa.
If they slip up and draw its GD if we win.Optimistic me says their GD will be more + than ours.
So what do you think arsenal will beat Burnley by?
I don't think it will be more than five.

So I’m a “melt” for surmising that our lack of desire to go for the kill this season, as evidenced in games such as Brighton away, Chelsea at home, Spurs away, Everton away to name 4 off the top of my head, has cost us the league (we would have pissed it if not giving away those leads), ok then…

Ok 5-0
We do Bournemouth away by a goal
GD with a game to go +3 Arsenal then they draw we win 2-0 Villa not enough
More tonight against a beaten team as I see it.

Good result. Great to see Phil looking more like Phil, and also ensuring the Tarquins can't win it on their own patch in front of their own fans.

Amazed Guehi played 90, and Bernardo played so long. The bad news is Rodri not even being on the pitch means it's very hard to see him playing any part on Saturday which will be a huge miss for us.

On to Saturday now and we've waited 12 months stewing over being cheated last May by a set of officials refusing to apply the laws of the game and send off the Palace keeper - kudos to the bloke in our block regularly shouting "handball" at him during the 2nd half btw - Saturday is our chance to put things right.

A game against a team who let in a lot of goals are usually the games when upsets happen.

Bournmouth are not on a better "winning" run overall, they've won 8 and drawn 8 of their last 16. In fact they've only won 2 since this last draw on April 22nd. The only match we've lost since Newcastle (matchday 12?) was at the rags. There's a reason we're in a title race and Bournemouth are not.

Arsenal have an away game, we're at home. Palace will have players playing for their places in their final and they're not easy to break down, nor will they want a local rival lifting the trophy on their ground.

Arsenal have not been prolific scorers in 2026 and nerves are bound to kick in on the final day if they need the win. They only just scraped past West Ham when the help of VAR and couldn't beat Wolves away and only beat them at home thanks to an injury time own goal. Anything can happen.

You tell me, i posted that well before your post. You just confirmed what I posted virtually to the letter.

Crikey and I thought I was a glass half full guy:-)

Absolutely superb!

Guess who’s back… Fodens back

Clean sheet, decent win and key players rested.

Great to see Guad back. Kover looked sharp, Sav showed some great moments, goal for the Mamoush, great finish from Semenyo, both Foden and Cherki’s assist were sublime, great show of affection for Johnny, Johnny stones…

So so appy, the futures bright ….

There's always a chance. I always look for the positives, bored of all these who are moaning about we could have won it if we'd won this match or if we'd won that match instead of showing some appreciation for a team in transition, key players missing, some barely out of their teens that's given us one trophy, hopefully another on Saturday and taken the title race to within 2 matches, maybe even the final day if we win in Tuesday. That should be applauded, not criticised.

The bonus tonight was Phil. He's back. And in time for critical games.

I am more confident for that critical Bournemouth game because we will have either a fresh Foden or Cherki available for that game.

I think there are a fair number of rags on this forum trying to pour cold water on our title chances but the fans I talked to tonight all think we can do it if we beat Bournemouth. See Forever Blue. Cheesy interviewed loads of blues coming out of it, and most match-going City fans still believe we can win it. Obviously Arsenal are favourites at the moment but if we beat Bournemouth, it's going to look doable.
