Crystal Palace (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Ignoring a couple of crap performances against Spuds at home, and rags away, 17 points dropped from winning positions will probably be our downfall. Won't list them, but 7 draws and 1 defeat having taken the lead. Spurs away, Chelsea and Palace at home probably the most painful

Who did we beat last night?

Was it all a dream

Phil Foden: superb

But 3-0 is why we won’t win the league, a proper Pep team would have put them to the sword 6-0. The lack of intent shown in the second is why we ain’t winning the league.

A 3 nil win is never a bad league result.

Have we scored 6 in a league game this season, even 5? Can't recall without checking.

You want a fooked side taking on Chelsea in the Cup Final, not for me.

A wet Wed night but clean sheet and 3 goals. A few rested and slow start but I feel we are seeing the making of yet another great team. Looking forward to Saturday and roll on next season - Yes, we have a few leaving but new players will come adding to the squad, all positive - Pep will stay, a new North stand/new facilities...... I cannot wait!

Did anyone see Phil checking his right side at full time, looked like there was a surgery scar, really hope it wasn't and the rumour of Crohns are false
I said exactly same to hub, who has had similar surgery. We even played it back and put it on hold and it did look like a faded scar. He seemed anxious and concerned as one would be. Bless him x

Agree it proves we just not ready but with two more games to go you keeping Arsenal honest! They probably will go on and win it but make it’s as nervous as we can for them in the final day!

Good win for us last night and wonderful to see Phil Foden's return to form and gametime. The club has rightly respected his privacy through what has been a difficult period even if you consider the pitch as the only feature of a footballer's life. An incredible cameo from Cherki, and good performances too from Khusanov, Savinho, and Semenyo.

I find British commentary peculiar: we had 80% possession and something like 60 touches in the attacking area of the pitch at one point yet the commentary was critical of City rather than a Palace team whose average position for all eleven players was behind the half-way line. I don't blame Palace for setting up in the usual way that teams do to counter City's possession game, and nor do I personally criticise teams for doing so, but let's call it for what it is: get every member behind the ball to restrict and hope for a counter-attack. Any pedestrianism in the game is surely to be directed to the team that is trying to stifle attacking play. Naturally, I hope they are far more successful in their efforts in their final game of the season than they were last night.

Last night's selection rested some players in preparation for the cup final at the weekend. We will go into the game as favourites, but single games are a lottery and though I believe that we are the better side we cannot be complacent.

Our next league game is a real toughie: Bournemouth are on a great run and so well coached. There is a real chance of dropping points in that game, just as I thought we might against Everton away. I don't think that Arsenal will have a similar challenge against Burnley, but strange things happen at sea.
Great post.

Would we be considered "ready" if we actually end up winning it?

We always knew we were not the finished article and on that basis one trophy, possibly two, and to be in a title race with 2 matches to go is a magnificent achievement.

Not that you would know it reading half the posts on this forum.

Nah that game was always going to be hard! It was the Forest Brighton Chelsea games at home we drew too that’s why we not top now!
Overall I'd have to agree. However, after the Arsenal result we were right back in it. That Everton result, especially with the clangers, was a real shitter.

Great result last night. If I'm being picky, I wanted 1 more, however all we can do is win and keep the pressure on! I would expect Arsenal to win their last 2 games, however imagine what it will be like at Selhurst Park on the last day of the season. It will be rammed and the atmosphere will be electric. It's the last league match of the season but also a farewell match to the team before they head off to their Euro final. Add to that, it's Glasners final match (their greatest manager?). The place should be rocking, and if they can put in a performance to match, maybe, just maybe Arsenal will crumble!
Exactly this. Too many keep saying it's over and banging on about where we went wrong. It's driving me mad. No way will Palace want to see Arsenal lifting the trophy at their place, they'll want to put in a decent performance ahead of their Euro final and there will be some players potentially playing for a place in that final.

I would rather have Villa at home then Palace away on the last day, all the melts who are saying Arsenal will have an easy game would be bottling it now if it was us that had our final match at Selhurst Park. We win at Bournemouth and the panic will start to creep in again regardless of what they do v Burnley, they know they'll have a tough final day to come.

I would have liked to have seen more goals. At least one. Two would have been super solid and made Arsenal really have to come out and all out attack Burnley. But key players got rest. Pep prioritizing FA Cup Final.

As far as Burnley goes - its certainly possible. Depends on what Burnley wants to do? Just drop back and say, "score if you can". Or do they try and play them. I'm thinking low block. I would also hope, perhaps its just a fantasy. But i would also hope that - after all the controversy surrounding the goal disallowed in the West Ham game, that the refs would do right to be careful with all the goalie blocking crap and not give Arse a free one. The soccer gods demand a sacrifice. Perhaps we will get one on Monday.
At this moment arsenal don't need to go hell for leather trying to score as many as possible
Two x 1-0 wins will win them the league

Our GD at 3-0 is completely where you want it. They have to drop anyway so one of their games is flat. We have scored a fair few more so goals scored is almost certainly not going to factor. Giving us a +2 GD, so basically if they slip up I fancy us on GD. MASSIVELY.
If we finished the season level on points and GD, we would take the league on our H2H record vs arsenal
