Streeting Resigns & Labour Leadership Contest Starts

I don’t think Streeting will come across well after doing this - if his reasoning is that Starmer can’t win a GE, why rush because the next one isn’t due for several years.

I don’t think Streeting can win one as this makes him look like a selfish bell end

Odd that a man with a majority of 528 at the last election when defending a seat and given the Labour victory thinks he is the man the country might get behind. Delusional

The time to challenge was the Mandelson affair that should have resulted in him losing his job. This isn’t the time, poor local election results have happened to multiple PM’s that went on to win majorities in later Generals.

Labour are plagued with factions and infighting. The country needs stability and someone to fulfil 5 years, if he didn’t go because of Mandelson, unless something of similar nature happens, he should be given the chance to do 5 years.

The argument that he’s not going to win a General Election is ludicrous when you have 3 years left before the next one.

Perhaps there is something I’m missing here, forgive me if I am,there are 650 constituencies and the majority was 174

Hmm, I don't think this will reflect well on Streeting.
Saying there needs to be a change of leadership before the next election is one thing, but effectively trying to trigger one right away, while saying in his resignation speech that what comes next should be "a battle of ideas... It needs to be broad, and it needs the best possible field of candidates", when an early leadership election specifically excludes Andy Burnham, smacks of hypocrisy.

The fact he hasn't yet launched a leadership challenge; does that indicate he hasn't got the numbers or is playing a game of strategy eg waiting for others to make a move?

I just wonder if he is playing a longer game here.

It's all deck chairs on the titanic anyway because unless and until Labour decides it really wants to make inroads into wealth inequality it is dooming itself to ever increasing irrelevance; and probably surrendering the country to a treasonous scumbag who will only make things an order of magnitude worse.
