The Labour Government

Betting is close but the order of favourites (on Betfair) is Rayner, Burnham, Miliband and Streeting. Like her or loathe her but Rayner is probably closest to being what Labour should be, supporting the working class. Miliband I cannot fathom why anyone would support. Burnham and Streeting are professional politicians by trade.
How does Burnham get himself in position though, who blocked him last time? Wasn't it Starmer?

A significant part of that delivery is representing the country at a strategic level globally. This is actually something Starmer has been brilliant at.

I'm sorry but you can't have Angela Rayner sat round the table at NATO or the UN or the G7 in discussions with global leaders.

These surface level things shouldn't matter but they do.

Just like you don't turn up to a job interview in flip flops and a t shirt.

Cameron was wrong about plenty of things but he was right about telling Corbyn to wear a proper suit.
So , you’re ruling her out of being effective because of what exactly?
Her looks?
Her dress sense?
Her accent?

Are you actually saying she can't dress properly?

The way she presents herself - she doesn't look and sound like a serious leader.

I don't know why you're trying to pick an argument here. I literally said these things shouldn't matter, but they do.

He needs time, the best way for him is if Starmer announces a timeline for departure which calls off the Raynor/Streeting dogs.

God knows what a 'safe' Labour seat looks like now though and the by-election would be circus.

Also risks Manchester having a Reform mayor.

It's their only hope though really of having a chance of winning the next general election.

You're not saying why though, in what way does she present herself? In what way doesn't she sound serious.
Outside of using the phrase tory scum a couple of years back which wasnt good can you not elaborate?

Leave Ange alone fellas, shes sound.

She would be spot on with Trump, he'd fall for her charms in no time.

I’m less concerned with specific definitions, more concerned with reports that over 20,000 children have been killed in, what can only be described as, extremely heavy handed tactics at best.

The concern should now be directed towards the living, it’s more about the 15 years of blockade around Gaza it means Palestinians have one million children living in poverty surrounded by devastation in what can only be described as an open prison.

This Labour government has presided over the destruction of Gaza and the West Bank, that’s one of the many reasons the electorate has decided to give them a kicking.

I'm all for doing something about Gaza but christ it shouldn't shape local elections.

I actually think this entire issue has become a mental illness. We all know that the problem needs to be resolved but let's not let it define our entire lives now shall we?

If I had to choose between my councillor talking about Gaza or my bins being collected properly then I'm choosing the latter.

It genuinely blows my mind that people will vote in the locals based on something (terrible, granted) happening thousands of miles away.

Maybe the bluemoon politics sub-forum is right after all and the country really is full of "thick cunts"?

My councillor talked about both an excellent councillor but reform replaced her. Gaza didn’t shape local elections though did it ?

Reform got in all over the country and we know what they propose to do.
Gaza was one of many things ……Mandelson friends with Epstein people are disenfranchised with the government. Decent local politicians sometimes are replaced because of central government decisions

So since the disaster of the locals we have had better than expected growth, a 17 year record reduction in the NHS waiting list, and next week we have a defence announcement

On the flip side all the other candidates seem to be a bad option for the markets and borrowing costs
