11 | Jeremy Doku - 2025/26

Keep dribbling. No pause nonsense that kills our counters.
The pause is what makes him dangerous. Doku isn’t fast over long distances, he’s fast over short distances. So slowing defenders down to then accelerate away is literally what he has to do. In a sprint over medium-long distance he’d lose to many fullbacks. Doku is not a counter-attacking winger for this reason. He is a low block specialist.

Pep has repeatedly commented on how important Doku is to dropping teams, which is necessary for setting the rest defence & shape of our team as much as it is in sustaining attacks. Top top player

Spot on

He's been superb of late. Hopefully his recent run of goals and end product will become the norm for him now. He's superb going forward but superb at taking the ball under pressure and holding it up as well (whether he lays it off or turns and takes his man on).

And he's brilliant at it, loved how he received the ball late on and just walked the ball forward with the fullback having to walk backwards himself as he knew he'd be gone again if he dived in. Can't believe that anyone could miss what he does.

"He is a low block specialist."
Two things strike me.
Firstly, that's an excellent bit of analysis.
Secondly, a clumsy buffoon like me, typing on my phone, would make a spelling error in that line at the most unfortunate place, so again nice job.

Mostly right but Doku isn't just a low block specialist. That's quite wrong.

Examples:

the game at the Emirates where he was the best player on the pitch despite City playing a low block for most of the match

Real away in December

Liverpool at home in November, his goal came from a counter.

Doku is a top player, a low block or not.

Feel like he had his Gareth Bale moment and has unlocked the ability to whack it in with his finesse shot.

He will be word class next season!

His confidence is flowing. You can really feel he knows how good he can be.

Problem is always in the past after such a period an injury occurs and then comes back sluggish. Hope it doesnt happen this time.

I still think his biggest problem with being an open field threat is not pace, but stamina. His pace while not as outworldly as his acceleration is still elite enough to play on the counter. There are examples of that through the years. But he gets knackered too much if he goes full throttle.

Still he is one of those examples of faster with the ball than without the ball.

Ultimate respect paid to him today with Chelsea double marking him as a minimum. Still carried a threat but when that happens it's upto the others to capitalise on the space that attention creates. Worked hard as usual, still one of the best ball winners we've got, he presses with the full intention to get that ball back not just to force his man to release it. did an important role just being on the pitch.

Really solid again. Frightened the fucking life out them. Worked his nads off today. I'd still like to see take his man on the outside more, though.

Initially thought Jezza had an avg game today. However, upon reflection he was once again a thorn in the opposition’s side with forcing Chelsea’s probably most attacking player in Palmer to drop back & continuously help out Gusto instead of playing further upfield where he’s most effective.

Understand your frustration in Doku not taking on his man on the outside today but Gusto is no slouch & thought it showed maturity in not going down these blind alleys & losing possession which he was guilty of in previous seasons.

If we get the balance right, which we didn't in the first half, the fact that he gets doubled up is a good thing for us. Unfortunately with Mason Marmoush it didn't help in the first half.

He's right on the cusp of becoming an absolutely fantastic player Doku, if we don't tie him down long term with a new deal this Summer we will regret it big time.

Right now his salary is twice less than Savinho's :D

Doku 50K
Savinho 100K
Semenyo 150K
Cherki 180K
Foden 225K
Reijnders 230K
Marmoush 300K
Haaland 500K

but in terms of results, he is third after Haaland and Cherki...

Doku helps us a lot during buildup.
His ability to carry the ball through 2-3 players is vital.

In addition to that, he has 22 g+a.

Age: 23

Perfect player for City and its future.

Not sure why you mention Savinho as the comparison
Doku will get a bumper rise at this next negotiation

There's been lots of negative comments about Savinho despite him being quite lively in all his recent cameo appearances
Fair enough six months ago but now now

Not dissimilar to everyone posting that Gundogan and Rodri couldn't play in the same team during the early months of 19-20 when we were regularly conceding goals on the counter attack

Suddenly Pep found a way to complement their styles but it didn't stop the comments for another eighteen months

Does quite lively mean -

Running the ball out of play
Not picking a teammate out
Losing the ball?

Insane what we’re paying Savinho, Reinjders and Marmoush. We’re not going to be able to shift any of them. All three not at the standard.
