Pep to leave at the end of the season

Would he leave when the team is already losing the last of its big personalities in Silva & Stones? Rodri’s future is unclear at present. Would leave some gapping holes should Pep leave as well.

VK just extended his Bayern deal to 2029 so there is no indication he wants to move on currently.

Similarly, why would you want a club legend like that to have the job to follow Pep? It’s a poisoned chalice
Yeah of course it is but he seemed a natural successor, no one can be under any illusion it wont be difficult once he does leave.

Obviously ideal situation is Pep staying forever but if he leaves I'm not really against Maresca.

I think he's as good as the other options we had available. There's Pep then Enrique a level below then a whole group of managers like Maresca, Alonso, Iraola, Kompany and few others.

if we can't get Enrique then Maresca is a good option.

I think he’s gone. And I’ve been on the other side for quite some time.
So you have.

I can in all fairness now see what people are seeing in it, with one or two newer things. Which even up until yesterday, tbf I couldn't really.

I still maintain that things like.. the north stand opening, the co-op as a venue for the afterparty, what people have 'heard', bernadro leaving etc, and even the Maresca links.. are meaningless in this context and are not in any way 'signs' that he is going.

But I admit there are other bits that could indeed point to his leaving, if you so choose to see it that way.

Either way, I continue to take him at his word and stick with the club official stance. Which is - nothing changes.

Until something changes, Pep is our manager, he is still set to be out manager next season, he has consistently reminded everyone of that. The rest is just noise.

And yes, I admit that for all my aloofness about it, I am obviously well invested in it.

Hope is the last thing to leave you. Even though all the signs point to this being his final week as Manchester City manager, I felt a tiny glimmer of hope when I saw Khaldoon and Pere Guardiola together yesterday at the final.

So maybe Khaldoon got Pep to change his mind in the 93rd minute.

Kahldooooooon!!!! I swear you'll never see anything like this ever again! So watch it, drink it in.

I don’t disagree. I feel like a Pellegrini type appointment was always inevitable though. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the rumoured Maresca contract would expire the same summer as Vinnie’s new Bayern one..

Overall it’s delayed, but is there not a rush to get it open for the villa game specifically?

Why that game and not just wait until next season?
Simple economics. The sooner it's open, the sooner the extended stand makes money. Plus, there's a chance (granted not as big as there was a few weeks ago) that the Villa game could see a title presentation. Why not have 62k in for that, rather than 55k?

I'm sure the club accountants and their budgets/forecasts had it in their plan that the stand would be open early 2026, as per the build plans.

Bayern won’t let him leave, and Vinnie would be mad to leave considering Bayern have a much better team currently.

Bayern can’t stop him leaving. He has a release clause it’s just a case of putting the money on the table and walking away.

The most likely answer is that Kompany doesn’t want the job. Either he doesn’t want to replace pep or he wants to stay at Bayern and keep building what he’s doing there.

Or maybe the club thought he wasn’t ready or just had to make plans with Maresca before Kompany was on the radar after this seasons success.

If Kompany wanted to be City manager and City wanted him, he’d be the replacement.

Because mate, there is a £300m contract on the go here! With relevant funding conditions, penalties, consequences etc. It is not and never has been a case of 'aye just open it whenever you can get it ready, doesn't matter which season'. It was always set and publicly reported to open this season, and this is the last possible point where they can fulfil that target.

That doesn't change whether Pep goes, stays, signs a 10 year extension, or replaces Khaldoon as the bloody chairman of the club. The timing of opening it for last game is relative to the constuction contract targets. They haven't brought it forward, they are running late. The last day of the season is a pure coincidence of it being physically the last chance possible. If they managed to improve on that and open it for the Arsenal game (which was also a reported target at one point btw), or any home game since then, it wouldn't even be a discussion.

I think the players are expecting him to leave or at least are prepared for it. That’s what I’m getting from all their replies when asked.

I think Pep is either staying or hasn’t made his mind up yet.

So it’s entirely plausible people around the club are telling Gaughan and others the mood is that he’s leaving without anything actually being decided or confirmed yet.
