3 | Ruben Dias - 2025/26

Dias, when healthy, has been excellent for us this season.

I think the 4 at CB will be Guehi, Dias, Khusanov, and Gvardiol. I wouldn't rule out trying to find Reis a move to a club with CL or EL football next year, still 20 years old and has had one full season in Europe, wouldn't rush it let him continue to develop.
Think we’d need a fifth CB going into a season with those 4. Dias is having larger spells on the sidelines as he gets older.

Answering another person’s point, I’m not trying to find a pathway to move Dias on, merely point to a scenario where he’s not happy with the minutes he’s getting.

That's trivial or nonsensical. Dias has been recovering from injuries. He hasn’t been fit enough to get minutes let alone starts. Shame because he hasn't made bad mistakes in a run-in. Could do with him at Everton.

Nobody knows whether he will be a firm starter next season, not even Pep or Viana or next manager. He's likely to be a main CB because he's likely to be captain.

at present he is not a starter

Dias hasn't been a properly top defender for a while now, maybe even since the treble season. There is a chance he strikes up a good understanding with Guehi but who would want to lose Khusanov from the team at the moment?

My opinion, for what it's worth (bollocks all) is that Dias will find himself increasingly on the fringes next season and move next summer. I'd even go as far as to say I'd see Guehi with the armband before him

Dias will continue to be a mainstay. It's folly to think that young players (Khusanov/O'Reilly) will not have dips in form and collect injuries in the coming seasons. It unfortunately goes with the profession and we need to accept it is going to happen. The management just need to do a better job in ensuring that all players are utilised so that we arrive in the spring with as healthy and in form a squad as possible.

You won't see Guehi as our (main) captain unless we sell all of Dias, Rodri and Haaland. I don't even think he will be a firm starter next season. If Gvardiol prefers to play at CB (rather than at LB), he is likely to play there. Can't afford to lose him.

Mixed around in rotation unless stats are incorrect?

Like I said on recent form he’s 3rd choice and wouldn’t get in the team although I am suprised he’s not come off the bench at least

Let Pep decide whether Dias gets in the team. "on recent form" means nothing, given that he hasn't played recently. Our record with him and Gvardiol has been excellent. But I don't think you know the actual data. So, it is a bit pointless to argue further.

Agreed. We have missed Ruben’s leadership this season at key moments. We wouldn’t have had that 15 minute collapse at Everton with him on the field for starters.

So on recent form you would swap out Guehi & Khus for a recently injured Dias? Your having a laugh!

Dias has been in the team for the last 3 games and seen no game time btw.

Never once been critical of Dias or Gvardiol both are excellent footballers, your putting words in my mouth that hasn’t been said.

The disrespect in this thread is astonishing. Without Ruben, no four in a row. No treble. And Pep would be long gone.

He's a top player and a leader. Going nowhere.
I don't understand why he isn't respected amongst City fans. Some of my mates have never rated him. He's not as good now as when he first signed, but he's been reliable ever since he first joined. Keeping Dias is crucial going forward. Every summer we see winners leaving, so keeping that continuity of experience and leaders is why we keep on winning trophies. I do think he should be third or fourth choice now, considering with the emergence of Khusanov, but if we are to carry on winning trophies, Dias should stay.

It’s bizarre. In the world of social media if you even suggest that Dias is a good player, you’re bombarded with replies about how he sucks and Khus is the future and the only one anyone should care about. Frankly, I don’t even think Khusanov would like how people belittle Dias! I mean the way people talk you’d like he was nearing 60 and walking with a cane.

we know nothing about it.

Dias and Gvardiol were there, we were winning 5-1 against Fulham, then they scored 3 goals in 20 minutes (4-5) and almost equalized. We were on the back foot until the final whistle.

Same thing against Leeds at home, we were leading 2-0, then they put us under pressure, equalizing in 20 minutes (2-2). Luckily, Foden won us the 3 points in stoppage time.

This is all true but also to caveat he hasn’t performed as well in the last 2-3 seasons as he had previously, is picking up longer term injuries and we have seen teams target his lack of pace and aerial ability.

Still more than good enough to play for us but I do think those saying he will be a mainstay over Guehi and Khus are likely mistaken.

In terms of ability I’d place him fourth amongst our other centre halves for next season, although his leadership ability cannot be overlooked.

But I guess we will see, none of us have a crystal ball.

Not sure what your point is. I was at all those matches and each was different. Dias is an experienced defender and has been brilliant for us. Our new young defenders can learn from him.

This isn't hate of Ruben since I appreciate what he's done for us..

But..

We've likely seen the best of Ruben already and he's not likely to get any better.. infact he may have regressed with injuries.

Either way you look at it.. we need replacement planning!
