Pep to leave at the end of the season

I unfortunately think it’s perfect timing for Pep. First you have Euro 2028 in the UK & Ireland, with group games in Manchester and the final at Wembley, then the 2030 World Cup in Spain with the final at Camp Nou. The logical step would probably be for him to take over the Spanish national team. So he’d have the chance to add both a Euros and a World Cup to his list of titles — and potentially win them both on what are essentially his home grounds.

He won't manage Spain due to his Catalan heritage and the politics involved

Yeah that’s the spirit.

I hope this fan base doesn’t turn cuntish and turn on Maresca before he’s even started. Get behind the man. United fans treat Moyes badly, 13 years on and they are still a shambles. Who ever is our next manager, we have to be behind him.
It’ll happen to be honest, we don’t know how good we’ve had it. Back to managers dividing the fanbase.

I’ll support Maresca but from what I’ve seen, he’s highly divisive amongst Chelsea fans, some think he’s the best thing since sliced bread, others can’t stand him.

As the season closes, this is all about the team that won 2 cups with the slight possibility of the domestic treble. Pep won't say anything until the season is done. The media should STFU, as it feels like they want to destabilise the team. At the same time, with them all concentrating on him, the team can play freely and have that small chance of bringing the title home.

Don't hold your breath.

Liverpool in disarray
United fooling themselves
Arsenal clinging on after overreaching
Chelsea - yet another rebuild and false dawn
Villa - the sharks will be coming for their best players

If Pep wants to stay in football - he's in the best and most exciting place - unless it's for the sake of his health, he'd be crazy to leave now.

Three things stand out things for me during and after the FA Cup celebrations at Wembley.

1 Khaldoon and Pep embrace on the gantry before receiving the FA Cup wasn’t an emotional one maybe a toned down respectful one ?
2 Pep walked off from a TNT interview when callously put on the spot about leaving .
3 No emotionally farewells to the adoring City fans in the stands after the presentations . Possibly Peps last Wembley appearance and he is a very very emotional man so everything seemed amicable there .

Pep deffo has his poker face on the last week or so again considering how emotional he can be it’s a strange one to work out …….
Unless it’s business as usual ?

There is an awful lot of smoke around Pep going, but if it is this week it will be so so sudden and won't do justice to his incredible legacy in England.

I think he really deserves a whole year of send off, ie to announce he's got 1 more year. Like when Klopp went, we'd then get his 'last Manchester derby', 'last visit to X, Y or Z ground' etc. That would be fitting for just how significant he's been in English football in the last decade.

It could even galvanise the squad for one final league win, which for the record I do think we will do next year (Pep would be mad to leave now from a playing point of view, he's seen us through the shitstorm of last winter and the rebuild, and this young team is just getting going).

We’ve encountered this before, Wigan 2013 singing ‘stick your Pellegrini up your arse’. A manager that had broken the 35 year trophy drought and then after that won the league in the dying seconds after being 8 points behind the rags in March. Hard act to follow and we were all scratching our heads as to why the club had gone after Pellegrini who then won the league in his first season.

If it’s Maresca we need to get behind him, the club must see something in their thinking if they were talking to him whilst he was in the Chelsea job. He will certainly get the tools to do the job with the current squad, what ever transfer budget and the best academy in the country having players ready to step up into the first team and the footballing operation being second to none in what it has achieved in the last decade and a half.

Huge test for the club as they have managed to get the appointments in managers right since Mancini in bringing someone in who can win and keep the club fighting in the league, champions league and cups. Hopefully the next person in the hot seat can continue the trend.

Sadly I think hes a goner at seasons end and if so, weve been utterly priviliged to have him as manager for 10 years.

20 pots, in 10 years is quite remarkable and some notable firsts that I dont think we will see done again: -
- 100 points in a season; still the only top flight team to do so in history
- First team ever to sweep the board in 2018/19; still the only team to do so in history
- First City manager to win the European Cup
- Treble in 2023
- The ONLY English team to hold the Prem Lge, FA Cup, European Cup, European Super Cup and World Club Cup at the same time winning them in the same calendar year

Leaving us with 2 more pots and a rebuilt side full of hungry younger players again with the right age profile.

Nobody really wants to be the man who follows Pep so Maresca, who knows the club well and that he will be allowed to manage, makes sense I suppose as a placeholder until Vinny comes back.

On Pep, Simon Curtis (Down the Kippax Steps) sums it up perfectly - "The greatest of the modern era. Legend, maverick, overthinker, tinker, obsessive, romantic, visionary. We will never see his like again. A true heart on sleeve merchant. We are in his debt. We will never forget."

It was never an issue when he was a player himself. He represented both Catalonia and Spain and captained the Spanish Olympic team. I don’t think he has ever said that he couldn’t imagine becoming Spain’s national team manager.

Oh and to add to my earlier post …….

This situation is like a toxic political one we are all unfortunately experiencing. All the Red cartel cult / owners / media etc want to see the back of Pep big time !
It’s no wonder Pep is playing the silent game ;)

Simon Curtis forgot to acknowledge Pep "Is a Funny Guy"...

I cant pretend I think Maresca is the fella, but he'll have my full backing. The greatest manager ever to grace a touchline gets pelters from blues at times, what chance does Enzo have the poor c**t ;)

Spain won't offer Pep the chance to manage Spain whether Pep want's to or not. And i very much doubt he does due to him being a staunch Catalonian wanting Catalan independence from Spain.

Personally I think Pep needs the day to day hands on approach with players, only meeting up 2 or 3 times a year wouldn't help him to get his message across.
We've seen at City, how many 'don't get it' in their first year here

Agree, the international scene would bore the shit out of him.

I can't see him going to NY either as the competition wouldn't fire him up either.

Should he go elsewhere I could see him doing another stint at Barca but hopefully, he'll extend halfway through next season for another 2/3 seasons at God's own club here in sunny Manchester.

I got told he was going to Saudi, a few weeks ago. Its second hand info and comes from someone within the close security of the team and manager.
I thought it was absolute nonsense when I first heard it. But after seeing how things have developed since then, I can't really disregard it as flippantly as I did.
I have never before had itk info and I doubt I will ever get any again. But, its a little more believeable after the last few weeks.
It would really not surprise me to see him in Saudi. Get paid lots of money, a new experience for him, less pressure and he takes over a national team in a few years

Pep is settled.
The 2nd half of the season has re-energised pep and the team are looking hungry.
I think he'll want to do a full season with the current squad to see where he can take them.
He looks fresh and up for it, the only thing tiring is the shite the press are putting out about him.
