EFL Playoffs time

Ridiculous decision to spy on the opposition, but the punishment needed to be in place before the offence. Southampton can reasonably argue it is disproportional and had they known they'd be kicked out they wouldn't have done it.
I bet they wouldn't.

According to the BBC, Southampton drew or lost the other games they were accused of spying on in the build up. The advantage can’t have been that great.

Then why keep doing it?

It's the intent that's the issue.

It's a great decision. We need more decisions like this in football rather than just a fine.

Imagine they got a fine but got a promotion worth £200m to them? a fine would be a drop in the ocean and set a precedent that it's worth chancing completely break the rules if the reward is big enough.

They compromised the whole playoffs before it started, looking to gain an unfair advantage by clearly breaking the rules. That's unfair to the other teams involved, so they should rightfully be removed.

Awful decision.

Saints should miss out, but it Boro should have to play Wrexham instead over two legs. Why should 'Boro get a huge gain and Wrexham nothing at all? If a team is kicked out of the playoffs, another should take its place.

Will end up in court because its effectively a £150/200M fine which anyone would say is a tad steep.

I would assume the championship is structured like the PL where parties agree to be bound by the disciplinary process. Same reason 115 charges won’t end up in real court.

Southampton are my local club so I’ll occasionally bob in to watch a game. The support can certainly be quite chippy if the mood takes them and the Pompey games are just insane.

I meant to share this page from the security handbook after the FA Cup semi but forgot, passed on by a colleague who stewards at St Mary’s and was on duty at Wembley. We come out of it quite well, Southampton not so much. Deffo agree with “youth risk group” and “poor winners”.

I feel sorry for Southampton. What daft, narcissistic idiot built into the rulebook the two clauses that Southampton have been disqualified for. Spying on a training session? I mean ffs, that is just doing your homework.
