24 | Joško Gvardiol - 2025/26

I posted this on the transfer page, but I figure this was just an agent working it for their client. But then I kept seeing, “well, maybe man city wants to wait because of the injury.” And the “oh, he’s kind of lost his place because of the injury.” To, “well, we don’t really need him, have lots of cbs.” To, “we don’t force players to stay.” To then, “he doesn’t want to play here and should leave.” It feels like a game of telephone (I don’t know, is that just a US thing?) where you whisper one thing and then five people later it comes out totally differently. Like did this just get spun out in social media?! And now if he does stay, I feel like this kind of clouds peoples opinions.

Should've come in for Nico, sick of this nonsense where a player comes back and then disappears again for no reason.

If we start losing our best players before they enter their prime, we're fucked as the standout side in the league and will become one of the pack.

He would be in the top 5 unsellables in this squad. Can't rely on them staying for Pep anymore so have to make sure they're happy and keep them tied down to long contracts. His price tag should be world record territory, we paid £80m ourselves, he's improved significantly since then, valuation should be comfortably over £100m, who is going to pay that for a defender?

It’s of stories that he wants to leave but I reckon it’s to do with his contract

Not the most liked fella but Sam Lee's opinion;

Would be a huge loss, I thought he would be the cornerstone of the defence for a decade. Perhaps it depends on Pep. He might be sick of being shunted out to LB and playing all over the place etc etc.

If, as expected, Guardiola confirms his departure this weekend, then in the subsequent days you can expect the club to quickly announce any contract extensions, before the World Cup squads assemble. That should put all the media and Twitter experts to bed, for a while.

I think some players are just mercenaries.

As much as we loved Tevez, he was a mercenary.

Julian is a mercenary seeing as how he always wanted a bigger contract or to go to another team offering more.

You know the type that will do 3-4 years at one max and aren't the decade type of player at all.

In a way it suits us.. because we got into a problem with our players getting too old at the same time. I honestly wouldn't mind moving a majority of them out before they hit 30's with an odd exception here and there.

No more mercenary than other employees. We need to lose the players who are too long in the tooth for the next iteration, not Gvardiol.

My problem is the seemingly infinite number of people who peddle conjecture with conviction and claim to have insight into every aspect of the club and players. As I told Bonnie Langford this morning…

Yeah Gvardiol is 24.. I wouldn't mind a contract extension and to move him when he's 29 or so.

That's what Real tend to do.. Casemiro 28, out the door..
