Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

What is this about?

"The club have left no stone unturned in their attempts to find a competitive advantage at corner kicks. They have been proactive in dialogue with Howard Webb and the PGMO match officials’ body, road-testing ideas and trying to set, define and exploit the margins of what is permissible within the laws of the game."

That can't be true, surely? Especially with Webb saying changes will be made in the summer?

If you've read other posts I've put in you'd see that I have argued that a team which drops 19 points from winning positions, including 11 from teams in the relegation battle, is never going to win the title: but this does not negate the argument that a team that never has a player sent off and never concedes a penalty despite the clear evidence of this resulting from very partial officiating which extends to allowing Arsenal goals which should obviously have been disallowed have no more right to winning the title. I have calculated how many points City dropped which they should not have done: at present Arsenal only need have dropped 5 to make us champions, and they should have dropped far more than 5. We dropped avoidable points: they were protected by officialdom.
Both these points are true. But if we deal with our side of the bargain then the other point becomes less relevant. Arsenal's points total as a result of the officiating is not remarkable. And would have even easily surpassed by previous City sides. That's my point.
If you've read my previous posts you won't find me disagreeing anywhere that Arsenal have benefitted from shitey officiating this season.

We can bleat on all we want about what arsenal have got away with but they're still only on course for a pretty modest points total for titl winners when compared to our previous wins.

We should really be looking closer to home at our own failings. Which I've already made reference to but people seem to want to ignore for some reason.

Their wrestling didn't cause us to totally collapse defensively against Everton.

Their grappling didn't cause us to completely flop yet again in 2 games against Spurs.

Their time wasting didnt cause us to drop some entirely avoidable points in the early stage of the season to make a title challenge unlikely for us from the early going.

We should look closer to home for why this season has gone the way it has. Arsenal have been themselves. No better than last year or the year before. We have dropped enough levels for them to overtake us.
We’re in transition and won 2 trophies I’m happy……not pointing any fingers at my club

Put like that, I think that's a reasonable point.
Simply, from the point of the league as a whole — not just us, forget us for a moment — the general feeling seems to be that a) their football was distinctly unenjoyable for a neutral to watch (not that they'll care about that) and b) they took a good few points off other teams, and I include United in that incidentally, by methods that would usually have been deemed bending the rules at best, if not actually crossing the line into forbidden territory. To add insult to injury, they benefitted at the London Stadium from the rules being applied strictly. At least as far as protecting keepers is concerned (there were other things going on in that penalty area that would be called fouls in any other language). For once — and right at the end of the season.
Let them enjoy their triumph. It's taken twenty-two years. We waited forty-four, so we know about waiting. As for us, for sure, we need to be better, especially in defence. Otherwise we will not be getting that title back in the near future.
And as I've expressed myself in some harsh terms in some of my posts on here, let me take the time to say that as far as I'm concerned @bridgeno1 is a sound and generally respectful poster in the vast majority of his posts, and that it is very much to the credit of this forum that we have posters from other clubs from time to time. Believe me, I occasionally look round other forums, and you barely see it. I like to think that we're a little bit different from many other fan bases, not least in our ability to take the piss out of ourselves (but that may be just pure delirium on my part). Has the inflatable banana spirit disappeared completely, now that we've been glutted with success…?

I reckon we’ve punched above our weight this season as well as our other competitors being poor
for the early games, City looked to be in danger of missing European football, in some ways Pep played a blinder to achieve what we got. I can understand the attitude of fans who had only seen us dominate, the change of diet from caviar to porage will do that.

I've been watching us since the early 90s. Seen plenty of porage in my time.
I'm not meaning to just be critical of us this season without understanding we are in a transition period. I'm just looking at us compared to previous years when we've successfully competed in a title race. Not saying this group can't improve and go again next season. But mistakes have been made at times when previous City teams wouldn't have slipped up. That's all.
As for us looking like missing European football altogether at some stage this season, that's one hell of a drop off from our best.

I reckon the reason your fan base is pretty unique is I don't think there's another fanbase that's had such a contrast of experiences. You've been through very thick and very thin and I reckon that makes City fans a bit more pragmatic and realistic (even if sometimes it doesn't appear that way to some on the matchday threads).

That's why I've gravitated here as we've generally been able to talk about football at large. Sure it can get heated, particularly with what's happened this season, and I know my team are a horrible bunch of cunts as well, but I guess the overall feeling is I'm going to enjoy this moment, not take anything for granted as you never know what the future holds.

And finally - it's just football. We love our clubs but hopefully we've other things in our lives that are more important.

Oh and fuck the Rags, fuck Sp*rs and fuck the Dippers too!

A huge respect to Arteta, he created a process, followed it and it paid off in the end. Everybody laughed at him, derided him, called him names..and who is laughing now! Love or hate the way they play, the are deserved winners in the title race that never was. And if they bum PSG with an ugly 1:0 even better.
Fuck Arteta the and anti football his team produce.

Let’s not get entitled like those rags across the road and those twats down the M62

Maybe they will be docked points for the shareholder loans to themselves, you know after a thorough investigation and having their accounts gone through with a fine outcome and the press and media having mentioned it every five minutes. This title could possibly need an asterisk.
Maybe they’ll ask Arteta about it on the eve of their champions league final.

god we rattled their followers and players more than we knew. video's of players and fans talking about bottling it and drinking out of bottles then theres the banner Panic on streets of london they've only gone and made a new one saying "party on streets of london" surely weve got no rivalry with a team from south london
their talking more about us than enjoying it and with nearly all teams changing or unhappy with managers they should win it again next season but lets see i guess it wont be fair because teams are defending more next season against them

Wonder who 'Maresca's' set piece coach is? and will he 'Maresca' adopt the Pep ways that set pieces don't matter. With 'Semenyo's long throws we will be missing a trick. He seems to want the Goalie to play out passing etc, which leaves Donna in the mire.

It’s them trying to rub it in our faces because we have hurt them so much! Let’s see how they go next season because can they climb that hill again to become a good team? Winning it once is a fluke!
