The Labour Government

Can’t see anything about this on the Daily Mail website, you can bet your house they’d be reporting it if the numbers were going up.

They’ve been weirdly having a go at the government for looking to freeze prices of essential items in supermarkets.

Price controls at supermarkets is utter stupidity and Labour themselves have tried to distance themselves from it. Clearly they did try given the supermarkets say it was raised in a meeting in exchange for a loosening of regulations.

He’s just keeping his name in the media long enough to see what happens with the by-election.

If Burnham wins it Streeting isn’t daft, he knows he’s got no chance so he’ll fall in line behind Burnham in exchange for a job. It’s how these things work.

If Burnham loses it they’re all fucked regardless so Streeting may as well fight on and have a chance at deposing Starmer and become PM for two years until Reform come in and turn the country into a tin pot Trump’s America.

The only one with a hope in hell of winning a GE is Burnham, and I say that as someone who politically is more aligned with Streeting’s New Labour centrism.

It’s Burnham or bust - for Labour and frankly for the future of the country as a moderate and inclusive social democracy.

Yeah think that's a fair analysis of how things stand, I think the 'only' challenge is that our trajectory away from a moderate and inclusive social democracy over the last few decades is actually going to require some fairly radical policies which is going to take some very skilled politicians to both position and then deliver.

It’s the government’s fault prices have increased. Fuel & energy costs are the highest in the western world. These costs transmitted through the supply chain + increased employment costs end up with why we have a cost of living crisis. Net zero taxes & insisting on importing oil & gas rather than use our own resources are the logic of the lunatic asylum. Yeah let’s import hydrocarbons from Norway who recover them from the North Sea, buts let’s stop recovering them on our own from the errrrr North Sea yeah let’s. :)

Wrong in so many ways. Anyway I can't be bothered to address it properly from my Greek sun lounger.

Cocoa and coffee increases are the government's fault??

Probably the next time this shower of fucking shit get anything right will be the first. Oh & before you make a bigger dick of yourself I am not a Tory/Reform/Green or whatever the fuck political imposters exist these mad days.
It was the useless Tories that started the mad Net Zero nonsense that is the root cause of many prices increases.
Oh & by the way who the fuck are you to adjudicate on what is right or wrong?
Best thing you can do is get a good Stifado :)

Kleftiko is better.
So that's another thing you're wrong about.
;)

If there was another Corbyn that didn’t come off the back benches 10 years ago and did it now instead I actually think he’d be incredibly successful in this political climate.
That's as maybe, but in politics form doesn't always follow function, more often than not it's cometh the moment, cometh the mannequin. The things Labour need to do to win the next election, assuming one could agree what those things might be, are simply beyond the party as it's presently configured. Labour's form and that of the Conservatives come to think of it, is in no shape to bring about the policies or the leader that might save them from disaster, let alone meaningfully address the very real problems the country faces.

Neither Labour or the Conservatives have the means by which they can drag the country out of the dreadful pessimism which seems to pervade every aspect of public life. They can't meaningfully engage with the electorate let alone enthuse them to come together in an optimistic social contract built upon growth and renewal. In truth huge swathes of the country blame the two parties for our present predicament, they're not only not buying what they're selling, they're not listening, that's why folk are flirting with the toothy tit whisperer and the club house bore, peddlers of lies and easy solutions.

Stifado was supposed to be a Double Entendre, I should have realised it would be to complicated for the Grauniad readers ;)
* Kleftico got it name from sheep/lamb thieves who use to steel the animal & slow cook it in a pit overnight, just saying. The term kleptomania derives from this.
I reiterate the next time this shower of shit Labour government do something right will be the first. QED

Checks notes ..... Tesco have just posted their highest profits ever and paid their CEO a £10 million bonus (no tax will be paid in the UK as he's registered as living in Eire )

£10m wow!! That should bring the price of milk down by about £0.00001 a pint.

If any government thinks it can set the prices then they should open their own supermarkets and put their batshit crazy ideas in to practice.

Its Donald Trumps fault and his alone ( he has advisors, but they are just enablers and lackeys) that fuel prices are so high at the moment. They had settled. Then he started a war with Iran in order solely to increase the prices, for his own benefit

Okay Trump has not helped but fact check this -: before Trumps war the UK had the highest energy cost in the western world. This is caused by the obsession with Net Zero, the cost of green subsidies, cost of renewables & the infrastructure, higher cost of importing Hydrocarbons, not using our own hydrocarbons which has resulted in vast job losses in the energy supply chain.
The Labour government are responsible for the highest energy costs in Europe & beyond. Even the most financially illiterate person can see if energy & its supply chain are costly, everything else the requires energy to produce, supply & retail will be costly too. It’s not rocket science. All this caused by Tory & Labour government implementing Net Zero, which will have Zero effect on the planet’s climate.

Decoupling electricity prices from the gas market would destroy the cancel culture around net zero.

It was the Tories that established the Net Zero targets (T Mays Government) and then passed laws to enforce future governments to abide by them . So no Labour are NOT responsible for the highest energy costs in Europe . I would also suggest that the sale of our electricity and gas production , storage and distribution businesses by the Conservative Thatcher Government hasn't helped.

Now , would you like to discuss ULEZ and / or the sale of the North Sea drilling licences (cos they wer'nt Labour either)
