Pep to leave at the end of the season

As everybody seems to be speculating here's my two pence worth...

What's probably occurred has Pep's said a good while ago he'd be leaving at the end of this season. To him it felt so far in the future that he was comfortable with that decision. Since then he seemed to have got his mojo back, things beginning to click with an almost entirely fresh squad and working with Pep2 had reinvigorated him. He knows there's potentially another chapter there in his reign at City. As the time has approached it has now fully dawned on him the magnitude of leaving. He's probably exhausted and needs a proper break, but realises in 6 months time or whatever he'd be fully recharged and would love to be able to walk back into the club.

I think he knows he's not getting it better anywhere else. The amount of control he has, the mutual love everybody has for him. Some are suggesting he might go into international football, but I personally think he'd hate that as he is so OCD. Can you imagine the amount of face scratching he'd do with players pulling out of his squads for questionable reasons? Not being able to work with players on a day to day basis etc.

I'd love him to continue, but if his decision is to leave I hope it isn't something he is going to regret in a few months time.
Here in Norway we had a case were a legendary manager Nils Arne Eggen who managed Rosenborg for almost 20 years, managed them in the CL for those that remember in the 90’s, and helped them win the league every year from 1992 to 2002, with a couple of titles before that as well. In 1998 he stepped down, with his assistant and student Trond Sollied taking over for the 1998 season which he used as a springboard to later becole manager of clubs like Club Brugge and Olympiakos. When Sollied was approached from Belgium, Eggen decided he was rested up and came back and win the 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 title.

This can very easily happen here, unless Maresca is succesfull beyond expectation

My sentiments exactly. I would just add how privileged I feel to have been sat there, in that ground, watching that breathtaking football through those glorious years. Farewell Pep and thank you for creating so many fantastic memories.

That was brilliant to watch and difficult to watch.

Thanks for everything Pep. You made my dreams come true and then some and then some more. You completely spoilt us. Now it’s time for us to carry on your legacy, to start again and maybe one day we will be as ridiculously excited at reaching an FA quarter final as we used to be.

I’m not having “one of the best Managers in the PL” nonsense.

Pep forged three teams in Barca Bayern and City that are quite possibly the best three teams the World has ever seen.

There is no doubt he is the best football manager ever anywhere and he stayed with us for ten years of his life. 10 years 20 trophies. What a ride.

A City legend forever. Please come back to see us one day.
Totally agree. Nobody has produced teams that play football to a standard quite so high as Pep. He's taken the game to places we didn't think were possible. I really think the three teams he's managed would be in the top 5 teams of all time.

it really is the end of an Era, not related at all but My Mum (Lifelong Blue) Died a few months ago, My brother (Lifelong Blue) is in his last few months of Terminal Cancer & now Pep is leaving, its all very Sad, but onwards into the future, Things are going to be very different but we crack on.

Pep. Where do I begin?

Thank you so much for choosing our club out of all the world.

Thank you for a decade of fantastic, beautiful football. Thank you for a decade of beautiful memories, both the highs and lows.

Thank you for understanding our culture, and merging your character with our's. Thank you for not suffering fools, of which there are so many, in the national media.

Thank you for defending us against slander, and refusing to ever give an inch to the dominant narrative.

Thank you for taking us to heights we could never have dreamed of. Thank you for Istanbul, thank you for the Centurions, thank you for 20 trophies in 10 years.

Thank you for deciding that this was a place worth sticking around, building your life around us, building a legacy for us.

Please, whatever is next on the horizon for you, know that you will always be in our hearts, minds, and memories, and you will always be welcome in Manchester, you will always be welcome at the Etihad, and this will always be your home. Please look after yourself well, if you are staying in the game remember not to take it too seriously, take care of yourself always, have a good rest when you can and when you need it.

Moltes gràcies, el nostre cor, el nostre constructor, i el nostre pare. Fins que ens tornem a veure.

Even more sad at the official news than I thought I would be. His message was an emotional watch.

I have been a big Pep fan since his early days as Barca manager and watched an awful lot of their games on TV. For most of his time there, the idea of him coming to City was a fantasy but then he left them and it became a dream when he agreed to go to Bayern and then, well before it was announced, a racing certainty that he would come to City.

I remember vividly driving a 180 miles from home with one of my daughters to go to his reception event (a special day I will cherish for several reasons). I never expected at that point he would stay more than three years. That he stayed for 10 and delivered so much success and wonderful football was beyond my wildest dreams.

Pep is the GOAT, of that I have no doubt. His City legacy unmatched and very unlikely to be bettered.

He leaves the manager’s role with my heartfelt thanks and best wishes for the future.

Was that the event at the Academy? I think we all got a little insight into how he would push everyone to be better as pretty sure he got introduced, fans clapped, cheered and didn’t really know what to sing as everyone was still in disbelief and the presenter said, wow what did you think of that reception Pep, and he smiled and said ‘it was ok’ or something like that. I thought it was a little harsh at first but the more we have grown to know him and him to know us, we quickly found out he always wants to push people to be better and that was his little kick up the arse to us as fans from the outset.

What an amazing, enjoyable journey it has been. I think all the adversity around the club made that bond stronger for him and I am so happy he has spent as long as he has with us. What memories he has helped create for me and my 3 boys.
