Pep to leave at the end of the season

I wondered this, i imagined he would only need a few months to recharge. Judging by his press conference though it will be much longer.

He was meant to leave 5 years ago then 3 years ago and remained even though he suffered personal loss as a consequence for doing so. Dont forget he’s had 1 years break in 13 years, and before that was Barcelona and his playing career.

13 years competing at the very top season after season with inevitably takes its toll. He deserves this rest and valuable time with his family.

As for managing again surely it will be international level only. Club level theres nothing left to achieve, and now he's stopping I am not sure he will have the hunger needed to go and start from scratch again, not day in day out anyhow.

I really wanted him to retire here but I think we have all seen this tiredness creeping in the past few years. I think he tried to really freshen things up this year with new assistants etc but like he said deep down knew it time to move on.

I genuinely feel as well if there was anyway Khaldoon and Mansour could of convinced him to stay they would if tried instead they like us have to respect what he wants.

As hard as this weeks been for us I think we have to accept things wont be quite what they were, I dont feel like we will be as consistent in winning but no one will take that decade of memories away.

One thing is for certain not matter where he is the world, when play he will be watching us theres no doubt about that. Forever a blue he will be.
Seems by the interview he’s very content in his decision in terms of reasons seeing more of his family, able to travel and go see things he wants to do and countries to visit.

Now the disappointing dust settles - obviously he earned the right to go how and when he wanted - but can't help thinking he's made a mistake and will regret this decision. Situations like this don't align often. He has shaped and (with others) has built this club exactly how he wants, we're competitive and still winning trophies with a developing team, we're 2 or 3 signings from possibly reclaiming our CL crown which is his raison d'etre - off field the club development continues, and he actually loves Manchester and the club.
A month or two off, watching the World Cup will kill him, the type of personality he is. Unless this is about a reconciliation with his wife, then why Pep? Why?
You and I ask "why Pep?".....lad in work (Irish rag) knows why. It's because we're about to be found guilty, hence stones and bernardo also getting out of the club before we're relegated. Rodri and erling next.....

That's going to be the narrative when the verdict is announced unfortunately. If it was true he wouldn't have wanted to stay with the CFG group.

I can't agree. I suspect the agreement with Khaldoon was to stay on and lay the foundations of a new team. He's done that, and done the spring cleaning for the new manager. Still work to be done, obviously, and a couple of players, maybe even three, to add, but the building blocks are there. He didn't want to walk away leaving as it was last year.
Couple of cups. Second. Not shabby.
I'm nearly sure that that team will be better next year. A couple of players will be on the move, or rather will be moved on, and two or three will come in.
It is, incidentally, the exact opposite of what Ferguson did. He got the trophy he wanted, for his ego, because 93:20 really wounded him, and then walked away and left an aged team in Moyes's hands.
We're not run the same way.

I think he explained himself well enough in the press conference today and he's explained it again in the interview Sky Sports have just dropped. He knows it's time to go because physically and mentally he can't give what the job requires anymore.

He's 55, his back is fucked, his marriage is on the rocks, and if he stays in a high-pressure job much longer he'll give himself a heart attack. He's talking about wanting to leave football behind for a bit, to spend time with his dad and his children, maybe to patch up his relationship with his wife, to go on holiday, to rest and play golf, to actually be present in the lives of the people he loves. Being a football manager is a 24/7 job and it's slowly worn him down.

You can see it in him that he's become softer, more sentimental. In moments where people have criticised him this season you've seen people saying that the Pep of 2026 is miles away from the "We are tired? Fuck you!" Pep of 2018 and even the "academy is ready" Pep of 2023. The love and passion is still there but the steely-eyed intensity has faded and that almost paranoid manic eccentricity has started to disappear as well. He knows it's time to rest.

The skinny feisty 45-year-old Catalan ideologue who took over in 2016 is now a slightly podgy 55-year-old honorary Mancunian who's without a mum, without a wife, and filled with (as he says in his last interview with Sky Sports) regrets. He needs to spend time on himself, on the parts of his life he's neglected in order to give as much as he can to the City job. I agree he's an addict, but I think he's an addict who's realised that he has to kick the habit now.

Not wanting to pour cold water on this, but I am old enough to remember the Joe Mercer era we had a period of unprecedented success but when he eventually left his understudy took over! To say it was a unmitigated disaster and brought a long period in the football wilderness. I sincerely hope history doesn't doesn't repeat itself !!
To be fair though it was 4 trophies over 6 years? We're a far bigger operation now, run highly successful business people who crave the success, not just the money like at United. Liverpool have a long track record of promoting from within and doing it very successfully and I see no reason why we can't do the same.

This coach must have something about him for Pep to recommend him so highly and to do what he has done in such a short time, despite those doubting the achievements because they're not at the same level, suggests to me that it might just be business as usual before too long.

New interview with sky

Interestingly he mentions his one real regret he still has now was he didn’t give Joe Hart a big enough chance to stay with him and prove himself. He must really mean it to think about it 10 years later

Very nice words, Joe always speaks fondly of Pep too, so great that it was just 2 mature men with no bad blood. I assume Pep has told him this over the years too.

2 great ambassadors for the club.

Excellent post mate - couldn’t have put it better if I tried!

Too many memories, too many great times, but what stands out for me is that first half performance against Real Madrid in the treble season. The best football I've ever witnessed by any side ever.......thank you Pep, we'll all love you forever.
