The Rodri dilemma

I’d keep him for the remaining year.

Let the new CM(s) bed in with him overseeing them on the pitch.

See if he can use the season to reach previous levels (unlikely as that is).

The problem with doing that is....what if he does what he's done this season and says he's injured? It would be pointless then

I’ve just watched the 3-2 Villa highlights from a few years back, and quite noticeable how thin & lean Rodders looks back then compared to now. With a WC getting in the way of decent pre-seasons then I think I’d be inclined to take the money IF a decent offer comes in, but tbh I reckon it’s more likely he signs a new deal, which I’m equally happy with as we are struggling for leaders at the moment.

He is 75% of 2023, he has had a few better months since March but slower and injury prone, and can't do 90 mins effectively.

I think one more year is a natural end.
If that's the case then it makes more sense to sell him - assuming he's happy to go.
Love the guy, but he's not as good as he was prior to arsenal nailing him - chunts. I'm not sure he ever will be.
Whatever happens he'll be remembered for being an outstanding City player

One of our greatest players, but I fear injuries have taken their toll, and I think he knows it. It will be a big loss along with Silva and Stones, and I somehow doubt Kovacic will stay, so big business needed this summer in defensive modfield.

Nobody should care if we get a decent fee this summer, keep him at all cost, you can't buy what rodri brings to the team/club.
If he leaves on a free next summer then so be it.
Still in the top 5 midfielder in the world for me.

Keep him.

In general we look better with him in the side than without, even if he’s (so sadly) not the player he was pre-injury. The only exception really is when he’s played while clearly, obviously nowhere near fit.

There’s still a hole in the side without him and we’re losing too many others this summer. Throw everything the club has at keeping him fit and get another season out of him.

All that said - it should be Rodri’s decision, we owe him that after how immense he has been for us over the years. If he wants to move on then he should do so with our best wishes.

New contract on the table, question is what needs to be written for you to stay.
If acceptable then edit, print and give him the pen.
If it's not decided, need to take some time, blah, blah, blah, then call RM and ask how much will they pay.
If acceptable then goodnight god bless, hasta la vista.

Especially with a change of manager, the rules have to be reset.
Having half-committed players doesn't work.

He hasnt got a hamstring through his knee….
Usually, ACL tear surgery involves stretching the tendon from the semitendinosus (one of the hammies) and threading that through the knee and attaching it to the head of the tibia to replace the ACL that snapped. Over time that fibre ligamentises.

As he moves to the last year of his contract do we stick or twist.
I dont like players playing the "I've not decided" game as we all know they're going, for nowt. The alternative seems to be sell him now.
He's repaid his fee arguably, but weve paid him very well, particularly in the last two years for very little return.
If he wont sign, I'm tempted to force his hand and sell now as we could actually realise a half decent return. In addition his fitness probs are very apparent.
I accept lots wont agree, theres probably no right answer, and maybe I'm worried about nowt and he resigns. But i doubt it.
I agree too!

Spoke to quite a few other Blues lately who are all of this opinion.

Reluctantly!

We don't know where the fibre was grafted from plus he has been back over a year and we haven't seen the scans either. It it daft to speculate on things we can't see or no nothing about.

Not sure he’s “said” he’s injured mate? Are you suggesting he’s been blagging?

Didn't Pep say he didn't know what was up with him for most of the season, when asked?

You can always tell when Pep if fuming that players won't play. He's very honest with his gestures. He's done it in the past with KDB and Stones

Nope, I should know, I had mine at same time and I had the hammy graft. Rodders had the gold standard BPTB, hence why he has a huge scar straight down the middle of the knee.
