5 | John Stones - 2025/26

It's hard to do a top 5 favourite players these days, because they all seem good people as well as obviously world class stars, but John Stones would be there every day of the week for me.

It's always made me smile a bit when his partners always get a load of credit - Otamendi, Dias, Maguire and latterly Guehi for England. Stones has always guided them through matches.

Raw. For men such as Silva and Stones, it’s not just the culmination of their time with us, it’s the realisation that they’re entering the descent after a lifelong climb. Regardless of where they go next or what might happen at the World Cup, the sheer intensity of holding on to the pinnacle for so long is suddenly released, which must be as terrifying as it is liberating.
