The Post Pep Blues?

I've always said players come and go, managers come and go, owners come and go. Whereas us fans are a constant. No team dominates for ever.

The time was right for Pep to leave us. We've still got great owners, and have had the privilege of 10 years of absolute domination of the PL, witnessing things we never thought we'd see. Before Pep we saw the first trophy in 35 years, the Aguero moment, the 2014 League & League Cup double. I'm nervously excited about what the next few years brings.
This is a more measured post than some of your recent previous ones. I completely agree.

Wow, you sparked some memories for me there. I was 9 then, too young to remember the league cup of 76 (I suspect you remember that?). What followed was 30 years of relegation, promotion, false hope, despair, Fergie’s United before we were back there to put things right. I think we can confidently say it won’t be like that!
The 76 cup final holds good and bad memories for me. My Dad wanted one last trip with his mates and my Mam took me to the Queens pub on Monsall to wave them off on the Friday night. Load of blokes and watney party seven cans in the back of a van. He said he would take me to the next one. I didn't get it then but I did when I got older. So that was the bad side of it.

The good side was when he got back on the Sunday morning with a glossy large Batman comic, a Newcastle rosette a Geordie gave him for me which I still have and a City League cup silk scarf which I dont have anymore. Later that day we walked into town to watch City lift the cup in Albert Square. So it turned out good in the end.

It makes me laugh now when I hear opposition fans usually on social media question why we are having a parade for 2 domestic cups. Enjoy every success and parade and don't think only the title or CL is worth it.

I always had city and Newcastle teams for my subbuteo for years after.

Totally agree with this. We have had a fucking incredible 10 years and in all honesty, Pep looked completely ready to go and for a long break.

It’s actually incredibly exciting times ahead with the young talent we have in a completely transformed squad and a manager coming in who hopefully is well positioned to take things on after Pep.
Compare to Fergie’s exit. He hung on with a squad needing an overhaul but rather than start that process before he left he papered over the cracks with the Van Persie signing for one last title and left a mess with an incompetent board and manager and delusional fanbase.

Keep having sporadic waves of emotion. Managed not to fully cry, but keep being like Rodri in the background in the link. The footage of John and Bernardo leaving the pitch etc are truly gut wrentching. Just completely feels like the end of an era.

An absolutely phenomenal side that have cemented their legacy in English football. As Bernardo eluded to we didn't get the accolades in Europe we deserved and realistically we could easily have had 3 or 4 more Champion's Leagues. For 6 or 7 years I believe we were the best team in Europe and should have also been regarded historically as one of the great European sides on top.

What a fucking experience. Thanks Pep and to the players of the last 10 years that have contributed to this ride. Players moving on was natural, but rather naively I sort of looked on Pep as a constant with no desire to leave any time soon. Truly gutted.

I feel empty. I wouldn’t be able to do the parade or arena party I don’t think, just feels like it would extend the pain. Yesterday I did cry a little at the moments Bernie and John left the pitch and in the speeches at the end. Pep was class in his speech, a true leader.

I am looking forward to the World Cup to take my mind off it all and I’ve not said that since our relegation years.

I think Maresca will be our Bob Paisey. Part of the revolution that propelled our club to the forefront of English football, the players, the staff, the board know him and he knows them. There is an alignment of philosophy and an existing working relationship. The groundwork for Pep was built for years before he arrived and it will remain after he left.
Interesting take. I like it.

The transfers this summer are, obviously, huge decisions. Our midfield needs serious rebuilding.

Well with that assumption we've nothing to worry about at all, Arsenal have not got our number, beaten them twice and a draw is testament to that this season

They're also just generally fucking shit. Their whole attack is based around gaming the rules and not getting called out for it. If PGMOL ever grow a pair and start reffing their set pieces fairly they'll be fucked.

Absolutely gutted pep has gone and still am.. but so happy, grateful and privileged to witness 10 amazing years..

Big summer coming up now for the new manager? Surely Rico, Reinjdeers, Savinho, Kovacic, Ake, Marmoush, Gonzales and many more to leave city with some big names coming in?

That's the worry the PGMOL saga, if it continues

It’s been an incredible time, but I can’t help wondering: how on earth have these 10 years flown by so quickly? It doesn’t feel like it.

I'm inconsolable. Stones, Bernardo and Pep in one day. Blokes who got me through those very dark Covid times when I'd just lost my Mum and Dad. They are more than just footballers and a football manager to me. They are truly remarkable human beings who deserve every happiness in life, and the thought of them no longer being around our great club is tearing me up.
Very similar to what happened to my family, can 100% empathise with you.

It was truly the end of an era and a very emotional day. But I am buzzing to see what happens next season. We will never see the likes of Pep again but we still have a club which is built for success and a brillant young squad. It felt amazing yesterday in front of 60,000 fans again. I was lucky to be there when we regularly got such crowds. I am excited to see what comes next, probably with Maresca who I think is an excellent manager. Come on City.

The king is dead, long live the king!
Pep is now part of our history and success that nobody can take from us. We need focus on our future, both the club and the supporters. I think Noel gave a very realistic breakdown over on tS on Thu/Fri how the things might pan out for us.
I remember a few Bayern players coming out publicly saying the drop in everything related to training/game was huge after Pep had left, so I ll try to be realistic in my expectations.

I think he will have a two year rest. I wouldn’t count out him coming back then though
Yep. Who would have thought he'd stay for almost a decade? He's our boy. Give him a sabbatical and maybe he'll be back. He's young enough.

In all my 34 years yesterday’s goodbye moved me in ways I never imagined possible. What fills me with some comfort is Pep seemed content with his decision & I believe as fans not matter how hard we all have personally found his decision to leave, we can all respect the fact he deserves his own peace after the monumental sacrifice he has made for over a decade in making us a footballing power house.

It’s not goodbye, just farewell!
